In this episode, Haylie Pomroy welcomes Dr. Richard Deth, a renowned Professor of Pharmacology at Nova Southeastern University, to explore the connection between metabolism, inflammation, and immune health. Together, they discuss the science behind conditions like long COVID and autism and shed light on the critical role of nutrients and antioxidants in healing.

Dr. Deth introduces the concept of inflammasomes, particularly the NLRP3 inflammasome, and explains how these metabolic sensors drive inflammation in conditions like long COVID. They also discuss how oxidative stress and deficiencies in key nutrients like cysteine and glutathione contribute to chronic inflammation and impaired immune function.

Learn how healing begins with understanding your body and giving it what it needs to thrive.

Dr. Richard Deth is a molecular neuroscientist at Nova Southeastern University, where he has worked since 2014 after 38 years at Northeastern University. His research focuses on brain disorders like autism, exploring neurodevelopment, aging, attention, and learning. He studies neurons' metabolic features, particularly the antioxidant glutathione (GSH), its role in methylation, and epigenetic regulation. Dr. Deth investigates how casein and gluten-derived opioid peptides impair cysteine absorption, affecting antioxidant levels and epigenetics. His current work examines oxidative stress, inflammation, and the anti-inflammatory potential of cobinamide, a vitamin B12 precursor.
