Marty was, without doubt, the best Gaelic football player of his age group. People came from all over Ireland to see him play. His performances for St Louis Grammar School, An Ríocht and County Down lead to him being scouted by the Australian Football League (AFL) and landing a dream contract with one of the top teams Collingwood, also known as 'The Magpies'.
Marty spent seven years as a professional athlete. In between his career in Melbourne, he managed to come home and obtain a GAA All-Star and he helped take Down to their first All-Ireland Final in 16 years.
Join me as I speak with Marty on the highs of his career and the lows, including his own Collingwood fans turning on him and being diagnosed with Addison's disease which ultimately ended his career.
He shares his wisdom, his struggles, how he stays focused on the positives and his tips on how to settle back home when leaving Australia.
