In this episode, Shad and Dustin speak with former College Football player and High School Football coach Mark Larsen. They speak of the importance of not missing out on the future because we are afraid of missing out. How can we be truly present? What are some of the things that get in the way of us being present? How can we teach our children to be present?

In this Sportlight Podcast Shad discusses an article about an 8th grade young man that was hurt by a remark Kevin Durant made about a video of him playing basketball that went viral, (see the link below for the article, with the video in it). They discuss the spider man principle, “with great power comes great responsibility” and how athletes choices can have a powerful impact on people for good or for ill because of the Sportlight. They also discuss helps for new year’s resolutions.

A few years back, then 14-year-old Duncan Jarvie, was cut from Utah's Olympic Development Program's competitive team. His response was inspiring and a great example of resilience. We interviewed him and also reflected on what former college basketball player and long-time high school basketball coach Doug Meachum and Tampa Bay Ray's mental performance coach Justin Sua taught about resilience. This would be a great episode to share with an athlete who was recently cut or one who is experiencing adversity. Enjoy!
