No. 16 Florida State (8-3, 5-3 ACC) and the Florida Gators (6-5, 3-5 SEC) are set to face off in a Friday primetime matchup in Tallahassee, with each team looking to add a solid momentum mover in the regular season finale.

FSU comes into the game with an outside chance at making the Orange Bowl (should Clemson make the College Football Playoff) and a blowout win over one rival already under its belt. Meanwhile, Florida has had a roller coaster of a year that kicked off with an upset win at home vs. Utah but only two wins vs. SEC East competition. The team’s most recent loss, a head-scratcher to the Vanderbilt Commodores, highlighted a good majority of the issues that have plagued the Gators all season long.

The Florida State Seminoles football team has shown vast improvement on the field, and it’s being noticed by recruits, including their latest commitment, four-star quarterback Brock Glenn, a flip from Ohio State.

The 6’2, 195 pound Glenn attends Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, and has a four-star rating from the 247 Sports Composite List. The sites consider him the 378th best player in his class (22nd best QB and 12th best player in Tennessee). Norvell leaned hard on his Memphis connections when recruiting Glenn and his family, and the Seminole staff kept in contact with the gunslinger despite his verbal commitment to OSU. That persistence paid off in a big way today, as the ‘Noles finally have their QB for #Tribe23.

Glenn, who officially visited Florida State in June, also checked out the Auburn Tigers and TCU Horned Frogs, before eventually choosing Ohio State. He holds 30+ offers from teams such as the Cincinnati Bearcats, Duke Blue Devils, Illinois Fighting Illini, Indiana Hoosiers, Kansas Jayhawks, Kentucky Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Michigan State Spartans, Minnesota Gophers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Missouri Tigers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Pittsburgh Panthers, Virginia Cavaliers, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

The Three Stars got together for another instant reaction edition of the Florida State of Recruiting podcast to discuss the 2022 quarterback commitment. On this episode, we break down FSU’s newest addition to #Tribe23 and what he can bring to the Seminole QB room.

Florida State Seminoles football, a week out from a primetime rivalry matchup vs. the Florida Gators, took care of business against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns to move to 8-3 (5-3 ACC) on the season.

It was FSU’s fourth-straight victory of 25-plus points, a run that has solidified the team with two games left on the docket — next Friday and the Seminoles’ eventual postseason destination.

Florida has had an up-and-down first season under new head coach Billy Napier. After upsetting Utah to start the season to earn a No. 12 ranking, the Gators dropped games to Kentucky and Tennessee to stumble out of the rankings and have struggled to find a consistent level of play from an offense led by preseason potential first-round pick Anthony Richardson.

No. 19 Florida State (8-3, 5-3 ACC) took care of business against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday, dominating the Sun Belt opponent to the point that backups were able to enter the game early in the third quarter. They took a 49-17 victory behind phenomenal performances from the starting defense and rushing offense.

It was FSU’s fourth straight blowout win, giving the Seminoles eight total on the year just two seasons removed from a 3-6 debut season for Mike Norvell.

After the game, Norvell, Fabien Lovett, Treshaun Ward, DJ Lundy, and Robert Scott spoke on the team’s performance and thoughts ahead of next week’s rivalry matchup vs. the Florida Gators.

No. 19 Florida State Seminoles football (7-3, 5-3 ACC) is getting set to take on the Lousiana Ragin’ Cajuns (5-5, 3-4 Sun Belt) this Saturday inside Doak Campell Stadium, the penultimate game of the 2022 season.

Louisiana, in its first year under Michael Desormeaux after the departure of Billy Napier last season, has fought to work its way back to consistency. They went 2-2 in both September and October, right now 1-1 in the month of November after beating Georgia Southern last weekend.

No. 20 FSU has shaken off a midseason three-game losing streak to set itself up to finish nicely with just two games remaining on the schedule — the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (5-5, 3-4 Sun Belt), who are coming off a 36-17 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles and the newly-bowl eligible Florida Gators (6-4, 3-4 SEC).

Perhaps you've been distracted by FSU football being good again. Perhaps your tv subscription expired, or you haven't been able to drive to the Tuck, and your radio died, and you forgot how to use the internet, and your neighbor's dog steals the newspaper, and all your friends who love basketball left town. If so, you may be wondering exactly how good the 'Noles look this year. I mean, there's a core returning quartet of Matthew Cleveland, Caleb Mills, Cam'Ron Fletcher, and Jalen Warley. There are critical transfers in Jaylen Gainey and Darin Green. And the freshmen class looks to be the best in years with Baba Miller, De'Ante Green, Cameron Corhen, Tom House, Jeremiah Bembry and Chandler Jackson. Let's get excited, people!

Well....we've got some news for you. Gainey blew his knee and will be out all year. So will De'Ante Green. So will Bembry. Chandler Jackson broke his thumb. Fletcher can't practice. And the jewel of the newcomers - Baba Miller - is suspended by the NCAA for a half a year because he attended his own team's training camp.

Luckily the season opened against Stetson. Even with just 8 scholarship players, surely they'd roll Stetson. Right? The next game was tougher. A road game at UCF. How'd it go?

Well, through two games there in one team in college basketball (looking at you Mississippi Valley State) that has been worse on the defensive glass than Florida State. And the rest of the defense has been intriguing at best. And the offense? Well, there's a ball and a basket and sometimes the two meet.

No. 23 Florida State, in its ACC finale, put on a near-perfect performance vs. the Syracuse Orange.

After scoring 14 points in the first quarter, Florida State’s offense took a bit to get going before finding life again in the third, surging ahead to safely put the game out of striking distance for the Orange. The Seminoles put up 420 yards, once again showing that Mike Norvell has cultivated one of the most explosive offenses in the country.

Though the offense had an overall impressive performance, it was the defense that once again showed out, holding a team without a touchdown for the second straight week. Syracuse averaged just 3.3 yards per play, totaling 160 on the night (with most coming in garbage time.)

Impressive individual performances were to be found across the board, with running back Trey Benson logging his third straight 100+ yard game, receivers Malik McClain and Johnny Wilson showcasing physicality while scoring on screen passes and quarterback Jordan Travis completing the trifecta of offensive scoring by throwing for, rushing for and catching a touchdown.

With the win, the Seminoles (7-3, 5-3 ACC) finish with their best record in conference play since 2016.

Next up for Florida State is a home matchup vs. the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (5-5, 3-4 Sun Belt), who are coming off a 36-17 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles.

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday and welcome to Noles News Now, the latest in Florida State Seminoles sports, brought to you by Tomahawk Nation. I’m your host Perry Kostidakis -- let’s jump right in.

Florida State has earned its first College Football Playoff ranking since 2016, the year that FSU faced off and beat Michigan in the Orange Bowl. The Seminoles debuted at No. 23 in the second edition of this year’s rankings, an improvement of two spots from the squad’s standing in the AP Top 25. FSU isn’t ranked in the Coaches Poll, but, hey, you can’t win them all, and also -- it doesn’t matter.

The ranking is a reflection of the fact that, despite 3 losses, FSU has performed as at least one of the top 25 teams in the country. I’m going to drop a couple of stat bombs on you -- 

FSU has put together one of the most explosive offenses in the country, a balanced rushing and passing attack led by a significantly-improved Jordan Travis, who has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the ACC and arguably, the country. Florida State is now No. 1 in the country in 20+ yard plays, having logged 69 on the season (62 vs. Power 5 competition.) According to FSU Sports Info, Florida State is one of four teams in the country (and the only team in the ACC) averaging at least 270 yards of passing offense and at least 210 yards of rushing offense per game this season. 

On the defensive end, while there is still room for improvement in a variety of areas, the Seminoles have also taken a step forward — FSU has allowed the fourth-fewest 20+ yard plays this season (24) while holding opponents to just 19.8 points per game (No. 22 in the country). Also via FSU Sports Info, Florida State is first in the ACC and fifth in the country in pass defense, holding opponents to an average of 165.0 yards per game through the air. The Seminoles also are first in the ACC and rank nine nationally, holding opponents to an average of 6.1 yards per pass attempt

FSU leads the nation with 15 touchdown drives of 80+ yards and with seven 90+-yard touchdown drives this season. The Seminoles also rank fourth in explosive play rate differential, trailing only Georgia, Ohio State and Tulane, with an offense explosive play rate of 16.8 percent that ranks sixth nationally and a defense explosive plays allowed rate of 9.2 percent that is 15th in the country

So basically -- yeah, Florida State is a pretty good football team. The Seminoles face off against the Syracuse Orange this Saturday at 7 p.m. and are currently 6.5 point favorites.

FSU, the defending national champs and winners of the ACC Tournament, are the overall no. 1 seed and look to be set up well to at the very least make a deep run.
