The Florida State Seminoles are halfway to sweeping their in-state rivalries this season as they gave the Miami Hurricanes everything they could handle and a whole lot more in Saturday’s 45-3 victory.

The Noles looked clearly the better team as they ran out to a huge lead and never looked back. They clinched bowl eligibility for the first time since 2019 and did so with the largest margin of victory in the history of the FSU-UM series.

This week, the Seminole Wrap crew — Brian Pellerin and Max Escarpio (as Jon Marchant finishes out his old guy vacation) — discuss what led to the blowout, how the team and program should feel about and what goal should be for the rest of the season.

Spoiler Alert: Optimism is plentiful.

Apologies for the late timing on this podcast this week, we’re trying something different by recording on my Monday lunch break after Mike Norvell’s usual Monday press conference.

We start this afternoon in the obvious place and that is Saturday’s blowout in Miami Gardens. The Seminoles asserting their will early taking a huge lead into half and never looking back. The stars on the day — Trey Benson who posted 15 carries for 128 and 2 TDs and then the FSU defense holding Miami to just 3 points in the game that came on their first drive. Otherwise, it was a lot of 3-and-outs plus turnovers. The Canes simply never had a prayer in this one. The stadium started emptying out in the second quarter and looked more like a normal Miami home game throughout the second half. Benson and OL-man Dillan Gibbons earned ACC Player of the Week honors as well. The victory puts Florida State back in the top 25 of the AP poll. They still remain a bit of a ways out in the coaches' poll. The college football playoff rankings drop tomorrow night.

This week’s opponent Syracuse, no longer in those polls after dropping a third straight game. That one was a battle of teams playing without their top offensive player.

Cuse going without QB Garrett Shrader who appears to be moving close to a return after warming up this past weekend and Pitt is without their star running back. Either way, it was Pitt who came out victorious so Noles headed to Syracuse to face a team on a losing streak, desperate to right their ship. Oddsmakers like FSU as they opened as a 7-point favorite on the road.

Outside of the field, two headlines in Tallahassee. First coming Saturday night when the broadcast showed Mike Norvell and Deuce Spann on the sideline where Spann was clearly frustrated as Norvell tried to get his head back in the game. Asked about it today, Norvell said “It’s about me helping to get him back to where he’s in control — when you get to that point, your mind can race to a million different places... He apologized and I just told him I loved him.” Norvell received some praise online for how he handled that moment. The other coming from a potential transfer off this team. This morning, Sam McCall posted online a note that he was entering the transfer portal, but later deleted the post, saying he made it off emotion. So it appears he will remain with the team for the time being. That is certainly something that could come up in this week’s Tribe ‘23 Recruiting and Portal Thread with our experts Josh Pick, Tim Scribble, and David Stout. They’ve got the details on everything you need for potential roster shakeups in both recruiting and the portal.

How about the ACC champs? Did you hear about that? Your reigning national champion FSU soccer team has added another trophy to their resume as they picked up the ACC title in a really even 2-1 victory against North Carolina. Florida State has now won nine of the last 12 ACC titles. Incredible run for that program. The NCAA tourney selection show is this afternoon at 4 so it may be out already depending on when you’re listening to this. Good luck going forward, Noles. Let’s go back to back.

Hoops season is here also as the FSU men’s team opens their year tonight at 7 pm against Stetson. The FSU women already rolled through its first opponent with a 113-50 win against Bethune Cookman this morning.

It’s one of the greatest rivalries in athletics.

Florida State Seminoles football (5-3, 3-3 ACC) and the Miami Hurricanes (4-4, 2-2 ACC) are set to etch the next chapter in the storied series between the two schools this Saturday.

Currently, FSU is a 7.5-point favorite over Miami (according to DraftKings), a reflection of the Seminoles’ uptick in performance this year and a disappointing debut season so far for Mario Cristobal.

Last season, the Seminoles snapped a losing streak to the Hurricanes by way of a dramatic 31-28 victory in Tallahassee. This year the two face off inside Hard Rock Stadium for a primetime showdown, scheduled for a 7:30 kickoff and set to be broadcast on ABC.

On this week’s episode of the Line of Scrimmage, where ahead of each game this football season, we’re giving you insight into Florida State’s opponents from those in the know, we spoke with Hurricanes’ beat writer Adam Lichtenstein of the Sun-Sentinel. Adam gives us insight into the tumultuous beginning of the Cristobal era, helps break down the Hurricanes on offense and defense, talks Miami’s quarterback situation and offers a prediction for Saturday’s game.

Fresh off the team’s second bye week of the 2022 season, the Florida State Seminoles were able to thoroughly dominate the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to start their final stretch run.

The Noles opened the first quarter rusty, turning the ball over on downs on their opening drive and then fumbling it away on their following possession, but Florida State was able to bounce back from there and nearly triple the Yellow Jackets in yards and double them in first downs on the way to another win.

So what helped the Noles get back in the win column? And what do they still need to clean up as they head to Miami for an in-state rivalry game and in search of bowl eligibility?

Monday for the FSU football team as they enter rivalry week. Thanks so much for tuning in. I'm Brian Pellerin on this Monday October 31st. Happy Halloween. 

That record breaking effort came from the football team in a blowout win over Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets were clearly no match for FSU as evidence by the 41-16 final score. The Noles were far from perfect in the game and still dominated the yardage, first downs and of course points. Jordan Travis broke his personal passing yardage mark with 394. That was a big piece of a larger FSU historical game as this game was the third time in FSU history that they had a QB throw for 375, a running back for over 100 -- Trey Benson's 111 -- and a wide receiver over 100 with Johnny Wilson going for 111 as well. 

Another big note was Fabian Lovett made his first appearance since the second game of the season. A huge piece to have back heading into rivalry week against Miami. 

The Canes coming off a 4-OT 14-12 win this weekend against Virginia that saw no touchdowns. They're far from playing their best football and oddsmakers will tell you that. FSU is an 8-point favorite on this one Sunday night. We'll see if that moves during the week. 

A win this week would give FSU bowl eligibility but also a nice welcome to the conference to Mario Cristobal. A statement victory could also help in some recruiting battles with the Canes. Mike Norvell and the coaching staff had plenty of potential Tribe 23 guys on campus this past week. Elsewhere on campus, FSU basketball hit with some bad news this weekend as the NCAA announced star freshman Baba Miller violated guidelines when his family received travel to and from a training camp from his native Spain to the U-S. That ruling puts Miller out of action for half the season. Miller and his family say they immediately paid back the benefits once they learned it violated NCAA rules. Athletic Director Michael Alford was none too pleased with the ruling saying the decision seems disproportionate and inconsistent in today's modern environment. Miller will continue to practice with the team so he's ready to return after his 16-game suspension. 

The FSU volleyball team dropped a 4-set match to Boston College on Sunday. They'll face Clemson next on Friday. 

Women's basetball dominated West Georgia 115-46 in an exhibition game. 

And the No. 5 soccer team closed out their regular season with a 4-1 win over Virginia Tech.

Florida State Seminoles football (4-3, 2-3 ACC) is rested up and off its second bye of the season, looking to snap a three-game losing streak this Saturday vs. the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-4, 2-2 ACC).

FSU will also be looking to snap a two-game losing streak to Georgia Tech on Saturday at noon, having lost to the Yellow Jackets off a field-goal return in 2015 and in the opening game of the Mike Norvell era in 2020.

The Seminoles are currently 23-point favorites, according to DraftKings, as the Yellow Jackets look to bounce back after a 16-9 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers last Thursday.

On this week’s episode of the Line of Scrimmage, where ahead of each game this football season, we’re giving you insight into Florida State’s opponents from those in the know, we spoke with Robert Binion of our SB Nation sister site, From the Rumble Seat.

With their bye week in the rearview mirror, the Florida State Seminoles now face five games in five weeks to close 2022 strong and build toward 2023.

The bye gave them a chance to rest and reset their mindset from a 3-game losing streak. Still ahead of them, a chance to clinch their first bowl game since 2019, the state championship games, a likely ranked contest against Syracuse and a non-conference matchup with Louisiana.

I hope you used the Florida State football bye week and followed the team's lead in picking up some rest and preparing for the stretch run. Mike Norvell's team got that opporunity to heal up their bodies and minds, clear that 3 game losing streak and charge toward the final 5 games of the season. That stretch run starts with Georgia Tech in Doak this weekend. Kickoff for that is at noon on the ACC Network. Florida State opened as 20.5 point favorite so oddsmakers like them to snap that losing skid and roll through the Yellow Jackets. G-T is 3-4 on the seson with those wins coming against West Carolina, Duke and Pitt. The losses to Clemson, Ole Miss, UCF and Virginia. If FSU takes care of themselves, they should be able to handle business and move one win away from bowl eligibility.

Of course, that's the lowest of expectations for this team down the stretch. Fans are hoping for much more and so is our Seminole Wrap crew. We looked at the team's still on the schedule, gave our confidence in FSU winning, which ones we expect to give them problems -- the answer there might surprise you -- and gave our predictions for the team's final record. A bye week also gives the coaching staff a chance to get out on the recruiting trail a bit more as well so now is a great time to check back in with our recruiting and transfer portal thread looking at the Tribe for 2023 to see where the staff was out making moves.

Elsewhere, Link Jarrett got his first win as the FSU baseball coach, sorta. The Noles beat Kennesaw State in its first exhibition game of fall ball. Whole lot of midnights between now and the actual start of the year... Opening Day is February 17th against James Madison.

Speaking of exhibitions! the men's basketball team also wanted to get in on the fun... they'll hold their own on Thursday against Newberry College. Admission for that one is free. Gotta like that. The women's basketball team has their first exhibition on Sunday.

The soccer team got a big bounceback win yesterday defeating Pittsburgh 1-0 with a second half goal and volleyball had an excellent weekend, posting two sweeps. Those straight set wins were over Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Florida State Seminoles football (4-3, 2-3 ACC) sits at a crossroads after losing three-straight games — an undefeated start has turned into a just-over .500 record, with FSU showcasing both frustrating self-inflicted mistakes and clear indicators of growth and progress.

The Seminoles currently are in the midst of the team’s second bye week of the year, taking the opportunity to regroup and refocus ahead of the final five games of the year — vs. the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, on the road vs. the Miami Hurricanes, away against the Syracuse Orange and the two home games to finish the year vs. Louisiana-Layfette and the Florida Gators.

In lieu of a writer from Florida State’s opponent for the week, on this week’s Line of Scrimmage, we figured that the best way to look back at the past few weeks was to bring on some names from Tomahawk past. to be. 

Another week turned out, brought another top 15 team to FSU's schedule and another mark in the loss column. This time it was Clemson, putting the blemish on FSU's 

record. The Tigers used a huge 17 point rally late in the first half and early in the second to jump out to a big lead and never looked back. The Noles were able 

to scrap their way to within 6 but never really threatened to win. 

At the game's end Coach Norvell saluted the Clemson run game for the success they found with running back Will Shipley and on designed runs for DJ Uieungalelei, but 

the Noles really kept Clemson in check outside of that window around halftime. So is this the beginning of the end of another unsuccessful season in Tallahass? 

The Seminole Wrap crew isn't ready to write them off yet despite the 3 game losing streak. So what's gone wrong, what do they need to use the bye week for and how will
