Welcome back to Wayward Stories!
This week we’re going on a road trip into the past! I recently took a couple of weekend road trips to Little Rock and Eastern Arkansas to explore Plum Bayou Archeological State Park, Hampson Archeological Museum State Park, and Parkin Archeological State Park. These three state parks represent excellent examples of indigenous cultures here in Arkansas, from the late woodland Plum Bayou culture up to late Mississippian culture. Both groups were mound builders and created beautiful ceramics, including detailed effigy head-pots unique to northeastern Arkansas and Southeastern Missouri! Along the way there’s a sunset on the Junction Bridge in Little Rock, killer Pizza in a little pub on Markham and thousands upon thousands of cotton bales 😆
Even if you’re not the history-geek that I am, give tonight’s episode a listen! You’ll find that the Eastern half of our fine state makes for a beautiful road trip, with lots of interesting things to see along the way!
