First Respodcast: A 9-1-1 Watch-Along

In this week's episode, we get rightfully pressed about the cruel fridging of our beautiful wife Shannon Diaz. Also a serial package bomber starts trying to kill people, I guess.

BIG SPOILERS for Grey's Anatomy season 11 from 1:41:10 - 1:43:21

Hey guys, awkward timing, we know, but it's time for our discussion of Bobby's second origin story episode! Remember, we record these a week in advance and did not yet know the events of 8x15, and certainly did not know they would be permanent! Just pretend it's still season 2 and laugh along with us as we reminisce and investigate the bizarre rarepair of Sal x Tommy. All one can do is laugh! Ha! Ha!

This week we've got a fun concept episode in which 9-1-1 does Ocean's 11! Did the 118 do it?? No. It's immediately clear that the answer is no. But don't tell that to the useless detectives on the case!

Now that Maddie's harrowing ordeal is over, she and the 118 try to pick up the pieces and move on with their lives in 9-1-1 season 2 episode 14, only to find that it's not as simple as just putting the event behind them. It doesn't help when your Computer Assisted Dispatch system goes down and you have to go back to using paper maps like in the olden days. Hear us roast some of the show's gay male characters (somewhat constructively!) and ponder the episode's FBI storyline that was clearly originally meant to go in a different direction.

Join us in covering one of 9-1-1's most harrowing sagas, Maddie's kidnapping and subsequent final showdown with abusive ex-husband Doug. A taut and effective thriller of an episode from GOOD writer Kristen Reidel! Plus hear a little tangent on why we abandoned ABC's Doctor Odyssey at 7:14. And we somehow still find a way to tie it back to hating Tommy Kinard by the end.

Content warning: This episode includes some mild talk of suicide, including a reference in our opening bit. It's all related to the content of 8x09, but if you haven't seen said episode or don't want to relive it, be aware!

Enjoy this already obsolete bonus discussion of 9-1-1 season 8 episodes 9 and 10. Fair warning, this is a bit of a cynical episode in which we air a lot of grievances with season 8 and the general direction of the show. If you were expecting a high-spirits buddiemaxxing episode, this might not be the one for you! We covered a lot of topics, so here are timestamps:

00:00 Intro

6:55 Is Buddie queerbait?/Ryan Guzman opinions

28:11 Buddie in 8x09 and 8x10

48:25 Season 8 in general, the show's declining quality

1:05:06 The Maddie stuff/Why won't the show take risks?

1:27:29 Advice to Tim Minear/Who we would kill off

1:40:36 Miscellaneous joking around

1:44:09 Maddie goaded a guy into killing himself

1:50:36 Closing thoughts

In this week's episode, everything's coming up CHIMNEYYYYY!! Except back in his 2005-set backstory episode, he was still just Howie Han, ambitious but unsuccessful jack of all trades. Little did poor Howie know, if he had just pitched the Snuggie about 5 years later, he would've been rich! Unfortunately, he had to go seek his fortune at the most racist firehouse in southern California instead.

In this week's episode, we discuss 9-1-1's Lifetime movie-esque season 2 mid-season premiere, New Beginnings! Buck says congrats Maddie on her sassy new lob! We talk about Flight Risk (2025) a little! Jane doesn't know how firetrucks work apparently! Baby, there's a shark on the freeway!

This week we cover 9-1-1 season 2's midseason finale- also our first Christmas episode! Happy Christmas in March, and a merry Krampusnacht to all! Anybody in this thread seen McBain (1991)?

We've hit our first 'Begins' episode! Let us take you through the backstory of one strong female firefighter Henrietta Wilson. This is kind of a slow burn episode where we gradually realize what we thought was a well-written episode may not have been so well-written after all. As this comes to us from the same writer as season 1, episode 9, TRAPPED, we have no choice to conclude that perhaps writer Aristotle Kousakis, and not S1E9 story credit Adam Glass, was in fact to blame.
