In this episode, we welcome Alan Lomasney and Bill Dougherty. They coach the Irish Wolfhounds in Ireland. They are coaching American football on the Emerald Isle.
Alan is the head coach and president of American Football Ireland (AFI), the governing body of American football in Ireland. Bill is an American (born and raised in Philadelphia) who lives part-time in Ireland and coaches the offensive line for the Wolfhounds. He is also the Director of Coaching for the AFI.
We discuss the spread of football in Ireland and the impact the NFL is having on the game globally. We also talk about the style of play they implement, the difficulties getting Irish kids to play a foreign sport, the game's newfound popularity in Ireland, and what we can do in America to help them grow the game across the Atlantic.
I hope you enjoy the conversation with Coach Alan and Coach Bill as they talk with me about football in Ireland.
