Rachel Posner, C-IAYT, E-RYT, is a yoga therapist and mindfulness coach helping people reduce stress, build resilience and thrive. Her work is informed by the intersection of mindfulness, neuroscience, and psychology and her teachings integrate best practices for the mind, body, and brain.
She talks about her journey of curiosity in exploring different practices around mindfulness. Rachel defines mindfulness as “paying attention to the present moment”.
She speaks about nervous system regulation and the polyvagal theory. We often might think of fight, flight, and freeze when it comes to nervous system regulation. And no matter what the situation, if our body perceives it as a threat then our body with react. So we must do nervous system regulation in order to help our body feel safe in getting through difficult situations and stay mindful.
If we have experienced trauma then our N.S. can be wired to always perceive threats. Or if we have a high-stress job, we can take everything as a threat. This is continually perpetuation when we don’t address our deregulated nervous system.
