Hey everyone, in this episode we sit with my dear friend, Barry Floyd, endearingly known as B-Rock. He has 27 years in the fire service, and we discuss his upbringing in Baltimore City, how he stayed away from the street life in the 80’s, but how he also experienced that side of it when he was shot in the head at the age of 18. Through a year-long recovery, it’s what inspired him to join the fire service. We dive into his experiences during a 2008 Mayday when a garden apartment roof dropped on top of him and his officer (one of my other buddies) and the lessons learned (I’ve also attached a youtube video of that fire after they had exited the structure). Also, what it means to be a senior firefighter, creative ways to build connection with your people, and so much more. He is certainly one of those people that leaves it better than he finds it, and I am so incredibly grateful that he gave me some of his time. Lastly, B-Rock mentioned a handful of names during the podcast that have shaped his personal and professional life. Men and women who have shaped the fire service and have shown commitment and given opportunity. Please stay tuned until the end to hear his personal thanks and shout-outs.

In this episode, I have the distinct opportunity to sit with Mike Nasti of Tip of the Spear Leadership. Mike comes with a wealth of experience on the fireground and firehouse floor, hailing from a busy metro department in the Mid-Atlantic. We discuss leadership topics such as how to know when you are ready to promote, what people underestimate when taking a leadership position, what/where do you turn when struggling with a decision or event, how to deal with toxic superiors, daily discipline and resilience and more! Check him out at @tip_of_the_spear_leadership on IG.

In this episode, we set the tone for what is required for the fire service and the physical demands. We operate in the unknown, so I discuss the "Hopper Challenge" and to specialize in not specializing. Like, share, subscribe.
In this episode we discuss how you must pass through the 3 levels of the continuum before gaining mastery. Too often we try to skip steps. You need to become the utility fielder before you can become the master, especially when it comes to in-extremis readiness.
Tune in this week as I have the distinct privilege to talk with Logan Broberg of Rogue Firemanship Training. We discuss fitness in the fire service, discipline, resiliency, and mental toughness, especially in the face of adversity or in that Central Florida heat! In this episode of In-Extremis Readiness, we discuss the timeline of experience gained, and how virtuosity - doing the common, uncommonly well will lend itself to overcoming the overwhelming majority of obstacles we face.
I am so honored and stoked to have TJ Prieur on the podcast. In this episode, we dive into fatherhood, marriage, knowing thyself, embracing struggle, and building resiliency through daily discipline of doing the hard things. He is an absolute sage, a calming presence, and is leading a value-added life. This episode is rich with principles for betterment in our lives. In Episode 2, we will dive into his experiences on the RIT that was assigned to rescue BC Joshua Laird, LODD in August of 2021, in Frederick, MD. For more on TJ, check out his coaching, and projects @real_elevation_coaching. This is the first time I've recorded outside, vibe out to the rain and songbirds in the background.
