Ocean freight bull market makes Feds flinch. Rare “audit” trigger (to my knowledge a first) requested by admin on 9 ocean carriers regarding detention/demurrage billing as well as general billing practices. I’ve been saying it all along, ocean freight is stuck in a 70’s mentality for internal efficiencies. The pandemic has left it’s shady underbelly exposed. Biggest surprise to me, why stop at 9 carriers. Many non vessel operating common carriers operate the detention and demurrage billing as a for profit enterprise, not as a direct cost pass through.
Is there still fuel in the tank for the ocean carriers to escape the mad dash the Feds might make to their books? Will the volumes dissipate to allow the 70’s era operations to finally catch up. We explore all on today’s “Navigate B2B”

Last year, many drug researchers had to modify their clinical trials to include remote elements, like shipping drugs directly to patients and video check-ins. Now, pharmaceutical companies want to adopt some of those measure to make clinical trials more efficient. The challenge will be getting the supply chain to support these remote trials.

The ethos of competition is better, faster, stronger. We see it in every aspect of business, life, and of course, sports. More specifically The Olympic Games.
And in 2020, where we saw what the world looked like without sports, we saw what a society looks like without rooting for a common goal.
With the opening ceremony on Friday, I thought it would be interesting to dive into the logistics of the Tokyo Olympics and how that has evolved--and continues to evolve even days before the opening ceremonies.
Also on the show is Charlie Saffro of CS Recruiting to give us the scoop from within the trenches of the hiring world and Andrew Cox is breaking down the holiday strategy for retailers all across the globe.

The bull vs. bear showdown is present in markets at all times. Freight is no exception.
Noel Perry, long-time freight economist who works closely with the Transportation Intermediates Association and Truckstop.com, talks about the reasons for both arguments on this week's Drilling Deep.
Also on the podcast, host John Kingston discusses the wild ride that commodity diesel prices have been on the past week. A sharp downturn followed by days of gains that recovered all of the decline. It's tough to keep on top of it.
