With viruses "all the rage" in the media, a true scientist must ask themself, "What is a virus?" The next logical question: "Can I be sure that viruses cause disease?"
I don't have the answers to these questions, but curiosity abounds. It's not so much the need of the medical sciences to have the answers, but it should would be helpful if there were incentive structures in place to help us find our way.
This isn't a solo cast focused solely on SARS-CoV-2. This is a solo cast focused on the sad path that the medical sciences have taken, particularly as scientific inquiry pertains to germ theory and viruses as the sole perpetrator in disease.
And my concerns here are not just applicable to infectious disease. They're equally applicable to any of the medical specialties, not least of which is birth.
If we aren't able to ask questions, then we'll never be presented with answers.
If we continue to demonize pathogens as the sole perpetrators on human health, and fail to emphasize the importance of personal responsibility for one's health, we are doomed.
