Using the gluten free diet as a punchline in media is unfortunately nothing new. Now Walmart has joined the ranks of companies making the decision to use the diet as a joke. While I appreciate that they carry gluten free food but their ‘Holidays: Hosting’ spot is lazy + uncreative. Why make fun of people who can’t eat gluten for health reasons? 

The son’s internal eye roll that his Mom is “off gluten” makes me cringe. It makes people feel like a “pain,” something many of us struggle with often.
