How Sunsoil is Disrupting the CBD industry as Alejandro Bergad and Jacob Goldstein discuss the mission to disrupt the CBD industry by lowering prices and creating higher quality oils and tinctures.

From April 22-24, Sunsoil offered their 30ct softgel and 30ct vegan capsules for $6 per bottle [regular price is $30 with other brands averaging $60-$80], comparable to the price of Advil. According to a recent CBD pricing report, the average cost of CBD is 12 cents per mg. Sunsoil will reduce its price to 1 cent per mg.

Alejandro Bergad, CEO and co-founder of Sunsoil, CBD has become a fad and he has had enough. Alejandro has been working in the hemp industry since 2014 and was part of the initial hemp boom in Colorado. He returned to Vermont to start a CBD brand and to make good use of the North East’s natural farming abilities. He and his childhood friend, Jacob Goldstein got to work on building a CBD company from scratch: from agriculture to production, to the business and mass market. Today, Sunsoil is the fourth largest selling CBD brand in the United States and half the price of its competitors.
“I saw a lot of inefficiencies in the agriculture, production, and business practices. Lots of folks who went into this industry early were pioneers who pushed barriers. But they weren’t focused on efficiency. They were keeping prices high rather than driving prices lower and democratizing cannabis”, says Alejandro.

Many CBD brands have focused only on endorsements and trends - seeking celebrity collaborations and advertising stardom by adding CBD to every product under the sun [sodas, waters, toothpaste, and dog food], taking away the real medicinal purpose of this plant.

Last Prisoner Project constituents and House of Wise creative partners Sean and Eboni Worsley share their story and voice to share firsthand how unjust cannabis convictions have deep ripple effects on families. 

House of Wise launched its Justice For All Campaign with Last Prisoner Project. In honor of 420, they are promoting a petition urging the Biden Administration to create an independent Presidential Cannabis Clemency Board to expedite the release of over 40,000 people sitting in jail for something that is legal in 37 states.
 
Last Prisoner Project constituents and House of Wise creative partners Sean and Eboni Worsley are using their story and voice to share firsthand how unjust cannabis convictions have deep ripple effects on families. The Worsleys' story is a harrowing illustration of how the criminal sentence doesn't truly end after leaving prison, and why cannabis clemency is vital in criminal justice reform.


Sean Worsley earned a Purple Heart for his service in Iraq, where he had the dangerous job of disabling roadside bombs. When an IED knocked him unconscious, he suffered a traumatic brain injury and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. But by 2012, Worsley felt optimistic: he had fallen in love and married his wife, Eboni Worsley, and he had a prescription for medical marijuana to help treat the insomnia, paranoia, and night terrors caused by his PTSD.

But their life as they knew it came to a screeching halt in 2016, when Sean and Eboni Worsley were arrested on cannabis charges in Alabama while on a road trip to visit their extended family. After six years of legal and personal trauma – including probation, incarceration, homelessness, health issues, and being separated from Sean's children — the Worsleys are only now beginning to rebuild their lives and their family.

Founded in 2016, Black Dragon Breakfast Club’s main objective has been to help BIPOC and women reclaim their agency and take control of the hemp and cannabis industry. Ever since its conception, Black Dragon Breakfast Club has intentionally branded its mission by mobilizing Women of Color to buy into the health and wellness lifestyle of a Dragon Bae by curating educational-based cannabis content, giving Black women an outlet to learn about the benefits of cannabis and how to get involved in cannabis advocacy.

Tsehaitu Abye is an Ethiopian-American cannabis entrepreneur, political organizer, artist and PA Farmers Union member advocating for equitable cannabis legislation. She is the daughter of an immigrant farmer who was deported for cannabis cultivation and the daughter of an immigrant urban farmer in Philadelphia. Tsehaitu brings her hospitality and labor organizing experience to connect restaurant professionals to the developing cannabis industry. In 2019, Tsehaitu launched Black Dragon Breakfast Club (BDBC) to help womxn and the BIPOC community reclaim agency, change the perception of cannabis and take control of the hemp and cannabis industry. She does this work through disruptive marketing, creative story-telling, and culinary experiences across the US and digitally. In January 2022, Tsehaitu launched the “Flower Puff Crew”, a Cannabis Wellness Series, in partnership with Black-owned businesses and practitioners to address the inequities in the health and wellness space for Black Womxn.
