  • #120 Back to school vibes: my experience with distance learning

Hey everyone, I'm so happy it's September. I kind of can't believe it's going to be 2022 in less than fourth month, but I am grateful autumn is coming. I'm excited to get cozy with books, light candles and sleep more. Deep fucking breath! In this episode I am talking about my experience as a distance learner. Ten years ago I got my first degree from the Open University, the world's largest distance university, which was an amazing experience that I never regretted. I returned in October 2020 to study philosophy and really loved diving into a new subject this past school year.

Distance learning isn't for everyone, but for me it's been a chance to learn in my own way (at home where I am cozy and so much less overwhelmed!), to avoid debt and to explore subjects I am genuinely curious about. Through the pandemic it has also built my confidence and helped me feel connected to something beyond my four walls.  I wanted to share my experiences and thoughts in case you're interested in distance learning too and because I wish more people knew about it as a valid option.  Here is more about the OU: https://www.open.ac.uk/courses

  • #119 Making space for summer time sadness & grief

Hey everyone, mmmhhhh. Today is one of those spacious Sunday that allows for rambly solo episodes recorded in bed with tea & biscuits.  I know many of us have been holding out for summer for a long time and now that it's coming to an end the pressure to have fun and be out there can be tangible. And then there is the world with its news, the uncertainty of winter and the need to process at least a bit of what we have experienced this past year and a half. This episode is a permission slip to be where you're at and to remember that being sad is okay. You can be sad and still have nice experiences! You can also make time for grief and still feel joy!  Maybe this time is an invitation for us to expand our capacity to be with multiple, complicated and beautifully human feelings at once.  Love, Yarrow

  • #118 Feminist magic with Amy & Risa of Missing Witches

Hey friends, I'm reaching out with an episode that I hope will bring some comfort in these heavy times. Speaking to Risa & Amy of Missing Witches was truly such a joy and a great reminder of how powerful witchcraft is. I hope you'll enjoy listening as much as I loved asking questions. Here is some of what we talked about:

    • How and why the Missing Witches project came to be
    • What it means to live in feminist magic
    • Witchcraft as a sense of personal power
    • How nothing is mundane and everything is sacred
    • Risa Dickens has an undergraduate honours baccalaureate in English Literature and a masters in Communications Studies. She helped found Worn Fashion Journal writing feminist fashion history. Since then she has worked in community building, marketing and PR in tech for over 15 years. Amy Torok is an ESL teacher, counter-culture enthusiast, professional musician and visual artist/designer with a B.A. in English Literature and a post-graduate diploma in Journalism. Risa and Amy were on a similar track, community and event organizing in Montreal, when they met backstage at a ukulele showcase. Together they’ve worked their magic to create music, a coven, a podcast, and now a book. Both Risa and Amy live tucked into the woods of Quebec. https://www.missingwitches.com/

    • #117 Sitting at the feet of plants

Hey dreamers, ahhh. What a time to be alive.  I've been having a lot of feelings this new moon and I got my second vaccine on Friday. This led me to think about the vaccine/no vaccine "debates" that are circulating our collective consciousness and it frankly made me feel heartbroken to say the least.  Then the IPCC report on climate change came out today and I wanted to speak to that too... honestly, this episode is a stream of consciousness because that's all I got for you today.  I wish for us to become more intimate with grief and anger, with healthy conflict & with each other.

    • #116 The Art of Self-Marriage with Danette Relic

Hey dreamers, it's a sweet summer day over here, a perfect time really to be soft and think about the ways we want to love, hold & accept ourselves. I've known my guest Danette Relic for many years and have learned SO much from her, she truly is one of the best cheer leaders and permission givers I've ever met. Here is some of what we talked about:

      • What it means to be in radical self-engagement
      • How Danette got married to herself and how it has changed her life
      • Permission, creativity & love
      • Growing up just wanting to fall in love & be an artist
      • Danette Relic is a Canadian artist, self love coach and future author. Married to herself since 2001. From a young age Danette wanted two things: to be an artist and to fall in love. Her early art career moved from gallery spaces to round tables where she helped others explore their own creative voices through personal reflection, visual art and writing. Danette’s multifaceted work continues to illuminate the relationship between self love and creative expression with The Art of Self Marriage. After a brain injury in 2018 challenged her capacity for reading and writing, she found the joy of using her voice to serve in new ways by starting The Soft Shoulder Podcast.

      • #115 Falling in love with tarot again

Hey everyone, this is a little exploratory solo episode, recorded on a break from watching Love Island, lol. I've been getting back into doing little readings for myself and others and I wanted to share a bit about how being away from instagram has changed things, how I make time for super low energy rituals at the moment and how it helps me tell better stories about what's going on for me. Tarot as casual narrative therapy basically!

      • #114 Living without social media or a smartphone

Hey friends, I've been living without social media and a smartphone for a while now and it's something that does seem to raise questions for people. Recently I dug my old iPhone back out because I wanted to share pictures of my garden and my cast post-surgery and it made me pause to see how it felt and if I had missed it. This episode isn't trying to convince anyone to ditch their phones or apps or whatever it is that makes them happy, especially right now. I just wanted to check in with myself, gather some reflections and then share them with you in case you're looking for that kind of food for thought right now.  Enjoy!

      • #113 Navigating the pandemic as a survivor

Hey beloved listeners, it is time for one of my slightly rambly solo episodes full of feelings and reflections! This time I am sharing some thoughts about navigating the pandemic with its touch starvation, loneliness, endless space to think and wild dreams as a survivor. There is nothing particularly graphic in here, fyi. I talk about my experience in hospital, reengaging with the world, what I am wishing for in our future, what beautiful aspects I want to hold on to , accessibility and how I came to a more empowered place of reframing some experiences I've had. Some of this is really positive and hopeful, some of it is challenging, all of it is complex I guess.  Enjoy!
