Born August 25, 1965, in Louisville, Mia grew up in privilege but found her true voice in punk, blues and jazz. In 1989 she co‑founded the Gits at Antioch College; by 1993 they’d earned an Atlantic Records showcase. On July 7, 1993, after leaving the Comet Tavern around 2 a.m., Mia never made it home.
