In Part 1 of this case, we left off with the prosecution concluding their case at Adnan’s second trial. The
State called numerous witnesses to testify. One of the most notable was Abe Warnowitz, an AT&T
Engineer who testified regarding cell phone calls made from and received on Adnan’s cell phone, which
was in Jay’s possession on the day Hae went missing. The jury also heard from the State’s star witness,
Jay Wilds, who testified that Adnan told him he killed Hae and convinced him to help bury her body.
Though some of the calls Jay testified about seemed to show up in the right place on Adnan’s cell phone
call log, some of his sworn statements were contradicted by other witnesses' testimony as well as Jay’s
own statements to law enforcement. As the defense began presenting their case at trial, everyone likely
believed that this case was nearing its end. The trial would come to an end soon, but this case was far
from over. In time, the world would come to know Hae Min Lee and Adnan Syed’s names as the case was
highlighted on a wildly successful podcast, called Serial. After Serial was released, new information came
to light that called into question numerous aspects of the case, from potential missteps or misconduct in
the investigation, to possible mistakes and wrongdoing on behalf of the defense and prosecution. Today,
Hae Min Lee’s murder case is arguably one of most well-known and debated cases in modern history.
