    It was a topsy-turvey first hit-out of the pre-season at the Whitten Oval on Friday as our baby Hawks were put to the sword by an experienced Western Bulldogs outfit.

    Granted the Dogs had an abundance of talent missing from the team that stepped out onto the turf on Friday morning, but that didn’t stop them going to town in the early stages of the match.

    Down by 40 points at the first break we did manage to claw our way back to be 10 points down at the main break, before again being blown off the park in the third term.

    Plenty to like, plenty to dislike and in this special bonus pod Brad and Andrew run through their initial thoughts, straight after play concluded.

    Join us at our first ever Hawks Insiders panel show at the Glenferrie Hotel in the heart of Hawthorn on Wednesday, March 13. For tickets (ONLY 4 REMAIN) and more information click here.

    * Adding power and burst speed to his arsenal and how he has prepared himself to showcase those new traits in-game;

    * Bodie Ryan’s ability to break tackles and the draftees that have caught his eye;

    * The additions of some experienced recruits in the off-season, and what they have brought to the football club;

    * His own focuses for the season and what his goals are;

    * Why trying to be a leader isn’t something on his agenda, but demonstrating leadership traits is;

  • 🎧 Podcast Special: Welcome back Peter Burge

    The 2024 season is inching closer and closer, and here at Hawks Insiders we’re ramping things up. Subscribe to Hawks Insiders for exclusive content, analysis, interviews and podcasts.

    Hawthorn’s High Performance Manager Peter Burge has settled back into life at Bunjil Bagora and after a year back at the club, is understandably excited about what lies ahead in season 2024 for this Hawthorn list.

    And why wouldn’t he be? Part of the regeneration of our list and the reinvigorated player development programs, Burge’s fingerprints are all over our current rebuild.

    Speaking to Hawks Insiders on the eve of the club’s intraclub hitout on February 15, Burge opened the doors and let us inside to get a taste of how things are progressing from a high-performance point of view at the club.

    Burge joined Danny and Darren and for an hour the trio spoke about:

    * The development of Josh Ward and the work he has done to add a serious burst of speed and acceleration to his armoury;

    * The rise and rise of CJ - noting how good he is looking at the moment and what he learnt in Dubai with Andrew Lambert;

    * Excitement around Mabior Chol, his growth and maturity, and their connection having worked together at the Tigers;

    * How Chad Wingard is tracking in his injury rehabilitation;

    * The curios case of Denver Grainger-Barras, a player that Burge describes as a power and speed athlete;

    * The insatiable appetite of the playing list and how they are collectively desperate for success;

    * And much much more.

    It’s always nice to be able to take a break, unwind, relax, and re-centre. And while we managed to do that over the Christmas and New Year’s break, it is always nice to come back home.

    And that’s exactly where we were on Wednesday night - back home with hundreds of listeners, chewing the fat on all things pre-season.

    Ash, Darren, Weissy, Brad, Mick and a cameo from Prinsy were back on the mic as we navigated through an hour of chat that included discussion about:

    * Our pre season training so far - observations (thanks Mick) and how we have been tracking;

    * Our makeshift forward line that is still being pieced together - Brad discussed his starting six up forward;

    * Individual discussion around Mabior Chol, Con Macdonald, Jack Ginnivan, Sam Frost, Blake Hardwick and CJ;

    * Re-signing an Evertonian;
