The years still don’t quite soften,

The pain that was born long ago. 

I’ve attempted to process quite often,

To understand what caused the blow.

I’ve searched amongst the shadows,

Unearthed deep parts of myself. 

I’ve scoured the pools of the shallows,

All in the name of mental health.

I thought that I had laid to rest,

Those stories of the past. 

But when I saw your smile so bright,

I knew healing was here at last.

Open up and show your heart,

The pain has finally released. 

Grace and love embrace you,

Healing is finally unleashed.

Breathe in slow,

Breathe in deep,

The memories start to fade. 

Opening up,

May make you weep,

That’s how healing’s displayed.

I share the speech that I’ve rehearsed,

A thousand times before. 

It softens as I’m fully immersed,
