What is personal development? It’s looking inward and focusing on ways to better yourself. It encompasses all aspects of your life and in every situation, you face you get to grow and develop.
It looks different for everyone. Some say it’s a worn-out phrase. Some say it’s too large a topic to cover. Some say it’s an ongoing process. What say you? To me, personal development is something that can happen…well it can happen organically in that it develops naturally over time, without being forced. It can also happen in this way. Have you ever seen a beautiful single flower, just one, that has made its way through a line or crack in the sidewalk? How does that even happen? The flower is usually a bright and vibrant color. Think about what that flower had to go through to make it through the sidewalk. Grit, determination, resilience. Well, that’s you. Look at you…taking your life journey seriously.

One year ago I began this podcast and I did it messy! I prayed about the name of the podcast and two days later I woke up and God gave me the name Healthy Wealthy & Wise Relationships. I had no idea what I’d focus on, I just knew that I wanted to help others navigate their relationships and help those suffering from datetastrophies.

In 1996 I wrote my first book with pencil and paper, in two weeks. Because it was based on my personal experience it was easy to write. The words flowed out of my mind just like a running faucet. I had the storyline. I had an experience I wanted to share. I had the desire to write. It took me 12 years to get published. 12 years! Why did it take so long to get published?
Today I've published many more books and a coloring book.

MY BOOKS:

For 12 years my manuscript sat in a loose-leaf notebook, tucked away in a drawer. The story only I could tell, sat in a drawer serving no purpose at all. The people who were supposed to be blessed by my story had to wait 12 years. Upon reflection, I realized that I was ashamed. You see, the story, although not autobiographical or my memoir, was about domestic violence, something I was thoroughly experienced in. I was ashamed that I had allowed myself to stay in 2 abusive marriages. That fact kept me from publishing my first book.
I was finally published! I got booked in bookstores, I secured speaking engagements and sold copies there, I sold copies out of my trunk, I took a copy to the person who said I couldn’t do it, I even walked up to a lady in Walmart—gave her my 30 second elevator pitch—and guess what, she purchased my book in the aisle at Walmart!

Today I interviewed my very own son Kelvin Miles. Kelvin is very busy these days juggling being a single-parent GIRL dad, working, and finding time to rejuvenate so he can be there for his girls Laniyah and Kamiyah. Of course, I'm biased when it comes to my granddaughters and think they're the best little smart girls a grandma could have. Kelvin shares the trials and triumphs very open and honestly.

When you think about a man raising his daughter what comes to mind? Is it the same as a mom raising her son or a mom raising her daughter? No! Resoundingly no! There's something about a man stepping up to the plate to make sure his daughter knows who he is and how much he loves her. Not discounting the love of a mom at all. In our interview, Randy Nieman, made it seem like it's not a big deal that he's raising his daughter, but I beg to differ. He also commented that his mom, Brenda raised him right. Thank you, Brenda! Because of both of you, Lilly has so much to look forward to...a firm foundation.

I’m super excited to do these next couple of episodes because you’re going to hear single-parent dads and their journey, detailing various emotions and explaining things from their point of view. I’m finding that a man can have such love for his daughter or daughters and I’ve come across one who describes the joy of fatherhood so well he makes me want to cry happy tears -Mr. Linwood Darkis
