This is a meaningful and wise conversation that opened my eyes in more ways than one. It made me re-think some of the ways the self-help movement has marginalized those who are looking to thrive while living with a mental illness, and helped me feel more empowered around what inclusive self-development includes.

Words have the power to create and transform our lives.
Taken from the Amazon snip it introducing her new book, Conscious Communication:
Whether we realize it or not, the words we use dictate and control our lives. The persistent messages we repeat can frame our thoughts and trap us into a mind-set that is difficult to break. This mind-set often manifests itself with statements like “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” and “I’ll never find the [insert the blank] I want.” Many times, we don’t stop to consider the profound impact that these negative, limiting words have on our mentality, life choices, and the path of possibility that we manifest.
I had the honor of chatting through this with Mary Shores. In this episode, we're talking all about how the way we talk to ourselves and communicate with the world around us, impacts on the experience we have. Change your language and you really can change your world.
I appreciate Mary's approach because she is completely practical. As we discuss in the interview, it is all well and good to hear many of the self-help anecdotes and theories, but how do you apply them to your life so that you can really see a change? That is where Conscious Communication can serve as a portal, a starting point, and something that you can really do something about.
Specifically in this interview we're covering:
Mary's new book is called - Conscious Communication. To get your copy head here: https://www.amazon.com/Conscious-Communications-Step-Step-Harnessing/dp/1401952135

This episode is a golden nugget. Lucy had me literally laughing SO loud. You’ll hear it!
There is a ton of joy in here, but the wisdom imparted is also palpable. Lucy is an expert in comparison, and how comparisonitis can trip us up in life.
In here you’ll find us talking through:
· How Lucy had been unintentionally using social media to bash herself
· How comparison is experienced by all humans to a lesser or greater degree
· How comparison brings friends such as jealousy and ‘bitchy-leaks’ [that one got a good giggle outta me!]
· The importance of self-preservation & self-focus
· Why it is necessary to cultivate a newsfeed that you find nourishing
· What living a #comparisonfree life looks and feels like
· The importance of the “so what” question + how comparison always holds a jewel of insight within it
· How comparing ourselves can lead to procrastination among other things
· Lucy’s understanding of the fast-food version of self-care
· The significance of evaluating why you’re doing something and the danger or not doing so
· Her experience of talking with Oprah (and how she managed to nab the opportunity)
Lucy, her infectious smile, and all her work around combating comparison can be found at her web-home – www.proofcoaching.com
She also has the book she co-wrote called Higher Selfie which can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/HigherSelfie-Wake-Life-Soul-Tribe/dp/1781806675
She mentioned Genevieve Davis’ book Becoming Magic in this episode too. That book can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Magic-Course-Manifesting-Exceptional-ebook/dp/B00J7VUL9I

Has human's our brains are fascinatingly wired towards searching for, and paying attention to the negative.
It does make sense from an evolutionary standpoint that to be afraid unnecessarily and flee a potentially dangerous situation is better for the human race than for us all being too busy looking at the roses to even care about potential threats.
But this default wiring can cause us a great deal of stress in the modern day at age. In this episode I'm talking through what this Negativity Bias is, and how we can overcome the ways it limits us.
