In the past week, I’ve fired three people, in three different ways and for three completely different reasons. In today’s episode, I share the lessons learned!
One of the “firings” was more like a “mutual breakup,” where it turned out he was actually planning to quit and already had a new job lined up right as I decided to let him go. One of them was a new member of the team who, just a couple weeks into the job, started demanding things we hadn’t agreed to. And the third was a true firing—where I was just completely done dealing with this person’s garbage, I called them out on it, and we immediately parted ways.
I hope getting a glimpse into what happened in each case and my rationale for ending these relationships will help you as you’re hiring and managing your own team!
