  • Owners of Missouri Christian Boarding School Charged with Kidnapping Amid Runaway Reports
Larry Musgrave and his wife Carmen Musgrave, owners of ABM Ministries in Piedmont, Missouri, find themselves entangled in legal trouble as they face charges of first-degree kidnapping following reports of several boys running away from the school.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Department Southeast Missouri arrested Larry, 57, on March 1 from ABM Ministries, while Carmen, 64, was detained the next day when attempting to visit him in jail, according to authorities.

Sheriff Dean Finch revealed that his office initiated an investigation into ABM Ministries months ago, spurred by a complaint from a former student who alleged she was "held against her will" at the facility. The investigation gained momentum as reports surfaced about five boys running away from the school since January, with one incident involving two boys seeking help from a neighbor who then called 911.

Describing ABM Ministries as a Christian school for boys aged 10-13 with learning impairments or disorders, Finch noted that the investigation involved interviews with former and current students of the institution.

The educational institution, overseen by ABM Ministries, typically enrolls an average of 40 students. Following the model of many religious boarding schools, it adopts the Accelerated Christian Learning curriculum, allowing students to progress at their own pace. Described in its parents manual as being "dedicated to the training of children in a program of study, activity, and living that is Bible-centered," the school emphasizes a curriculum deeply rooted in Christian teachings. The manual further outlines the school's approach to discipline as "firm, consistent, fair, and tempered with love."

The troubled history of ABM Ministries has come to light, with reports indicating that the school, initially co-ed, faced legal scrutiny in 2009 when a federal lawsuit accused a former principal of engaging in sexual misconduct with a female student. The lawsuit alleged the Musgraves failed to protect the victim, resulting in a settlement.

Responding to the developments, Sheriff Finch expressed determination to uncover the truth and ensure justice for all victims involved. "When it comes to children, Sheriff Finch will leave no stone unturned until all victims are interviewed," the statement asserted.

ABM Ministries' website, which previously highlighted its mission to assist boys with learning impairments or disorders, was found to be non-functional. The school had approximately 40 enrolled students at any given time, according to previous reports.

The legal proceedings surrounding the Musgraves' charges remain ongoing, with uncertainty regarding their plea to the charges. Despite requests for comments, the couple's attorney has not responded to inquiries.

As investigations continue, authorities anticipate additional victims to come forward, raising the possibility of further charges against the Musgraves. The case underscores the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and ensuring accountability within educational institutions.

  • Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death for Woman Found Dead in Firefighter's Home
The mystery surrounding the death of Sarah Kathleen Sweeney, 39, found deceased in a firefighter's home in the Village of Westwood near Frontenac on Jan. 13, has taken a significant step forward as the St. Louis County Medical Examiner completed her autopsy.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Gershom Norfleet determined that Sweeney's cause of death was "Oxycodone, Gabapentin, and Diphenhydramine Intoxication," though the manner of death remains "Undetermined." According to the official report released by Frontenac PD, Sweeney was discovered with no apparent signs of trauma, and the investigation suggests she was alone at the time of her death.

In response to the findings, the Sweeney family issued a statement expressing gratitude for the investigative efforts. "Our family has complete confidence in the thorough investigation made by the St Louis County Medical Examiner's office and the Frontenac Police Department," they said. "We'd like to thank them for their hard work on this case, and for their kindness and compassion when communicating with us."

Acknowledging the ongoing police investigation, the family urged privacy, stating, "Our hope is to close this chapter of our lives soon so that we can grieve, move on, and continue to honor the memory of our Sarah."

Days after Sweeney's tragic demise, her attorney revealed that she battled severe health conditions, including a life-threatening bone disorder and mast cell activation disorder. These conditions shed light on potential factors contributing to her death, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her passing.

Complicating matters further, the home where Sweeney was found deceased had a troubling history. It belonged to a man whose fiancée, Grace Holland, died of a single gunshot wound to the head two years prior. While police initially classified Holland's death as a suicide, her family harbored concerns about the investigation's integrity.

Through their attorney, Holland's family had called for a meticulous examination into Sweeney's death, citing lingering doubts stemming from Holland's case. However, no charges or arrests have been made in connection with Sweeney's death, and the firefighter's identity and department remain undisclosed.

Despite inquiries, Frontenac police have yet to provide additional information regarding the ongoing investigation. As the community awaits further developments, questions linger surrounding the circumstances of Sarah Kathleen Sweeney's untimely demise, leaving loved ones seeking closure and justice.

  • Texts Reveal Panic of Girl, 12, Allegedly Drugged at Sleepover; Father Faces Felony Charges
A disturbing incident unfolded in Lake Oswego last August when three 12-year-old girls were hospitalized after allegedly being exposed to an unknown prescription drug during a sleepover at a friend's house. Now, harrowing text messages from one of the girls shed light on the terrifying ordeal, while the host of the sleepover, Michael Meyden, faces multiple felony charges.

According to authorities, Meyden, 57, of Lake Oswego, is accused of drugging the girls by lacing mango smoothies with benzodiazepine and encouraging them to drink. Meyden turned himself in at the Clackamas County Jail on February 28, 2024, after a Clackamas County Grand Jury indicted him on nine felony and misdemeanor charges, including causing ingestion of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.

The text messages exchanged by one of the frightened girls and her mother paint a chilling picture of the events that transpired that night. In a frantic plea for help, the girl texted her mother at 1:43 a.m., saying, "Mom please pick me up and say I had a family emergency. I don't feel safe... Please pick up. Please. PLEASE!!"

Despite her desperate messages, the girl's mother did not respond, prompting the girl to reach out to her friends' parents for assistance. Eventually, one friend's mother came to pick her up from Meyden's house, where she allegedly experienced disturbing encounters with Meyden while pretending to be asleep.

"So I'm 'sleeping' and her dad comes down and (I'm) hugging [the friend] because she was scared, and he kept moving us away from each other but kept doing tests to make sure we weren't awake," the frightened girl recounted in a text to her friend.

The concerned parents of the girls ultimately intervened, refusing to leave Meyden's house until they retrieved their daughters. Subsequent hospital tests confirmed that all three girls had ingested benzodiazepine.

Meyden, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was released on a $50,000 bond following his indictment. Notably, less than two months after the incident, Meyden finalized his divorce from his wife of 16 years and relocated to Vancouver, Wash.

The case has sparked outrage and concern among the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and communication in safeguarding children from potential dangers. As legal proceedings unfold, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged drugging incident, while families grapple with the trauma inflicted upon their children.

  • Defense Attorney's Jury Questions Raise Concerns in James Crumbley Trial
The ongoing jury selection process in the involuntary manslaughter trial of James Crumbley took a dramatic turn as defense attorney Mariell Lehman's probing inquiries stirred controversy and prompted objections from the prosecution.

During the proceedings, Lehman's line of questioning delved into critical aspects of the case, aiming to challenge the prosecution's narrative and establish nuanced distinctions between Crumbley's actions and his son's. Key points of focus included:

    - **Parental Responsibility:** Lehman prompted potential jurors to consider hypothetical scenarios regarding parental gifts and responsibilities. One question posed was whether gifting a car to a teenager implies ownership and control.

    - **Mental Health Awareness:** Addressing the complexities of identifying mental health issues, particularly among teenagers, Lehman sought to gauge jurors' understanding of depression and the challenges associated with recognizing its signs.

    - **Firearm Access:** Amid allegations that Crumbley provided his son with easy access to the weapon used in the school shooting, Lehman probed jurors' perspectives on firearm storage and access. Questions revolved around distinguishing between intentional and passive access to firearms.

While Lehman defended her questions as pertinent to the case's core issues, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald raised objections, asserting that some queries delved too deeply into case specifics. Tensions escalated as McDonald accused Lehman of overstepping boundaries, prompting intervention from the presiding judge to ensure a fair and impartial jury selection process.

The diverse pool of 15 potential jurors included individuals with varying backgrounds and experiences. Notably, six jurors disclosed firearm ownership, prompting strategic considerations from both the defense and prosecution teams.

As the trial unfolds, public scrutiny intensifies, underscoring the need for transparency and accountability in navigating the complexities surrounding one of the nation's most devastating school shootings.

James Crumbley's trial marks the final chapter in a tragic saga that shook the Oxford High School community on November 30, 2021, resulting in multiple fatalities and leaving scars that continue to reverberate. With the legal proceedings underway, the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families remains at the forefront, highlighting the profound impact of gun violence on communities nationwide.

  • Outrage Over Sheriff Sharing Photo of Deceased Teen on Social Media Sparks Investigations
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is under fire following the controversial sharing of a photo believed to depict the lifeless body of 13-year-old Madeline Soto on social media. The incident has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about accountability and transparency within the law enforcement agency.

Sheriff Marcos Lopez ignited the controversy when he allegedly posted the disturbing image on his personal Instagram page, just hours after Soto's body was discovered in a rural area outside St. Cloud. While Lopez claimed the post was accidental, the public condemnation was swift, with many questioning the appropriateness and ethics of sharing such a graphic image.

In a separate incident, the Sheriff's executive director, Nirva Rodriguez, added fuel to the fire by posting a selfie with suspect Stephan Sterns during a perp walk, accompanied by a caption that drew further criticism. These actions directly violate the Sheriff's own social media policy, which explicitly prohibits the dissemination of information from ongoing criminal investigations, including photographs, as well as making statements about the guilt or innocence of any suspect.

Law enforcement expert Randy Nelson expressed dismay at the violations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to established policies and procedures. "It makes you look at the leadership. I mean, that’s, that’s all one can do. And once again, it goes back to transparency and accountability," Nelson remarked, reflecting the broader concerns regarding the conduct of the Sheriff's Office.

Compounding the controversy is the revelation that Osceola County Sheriff's Office was not the lead agency investigating Soto's death, raising questions about why the graphic photo was in Sheriff Lopez's possession and who took it. Despite inquiries, the Sheriff's Office has remained tight-lipped on these matters, fueling further speculation and frustration.

While State Attorney Andrew Bain expressed deep concern over the careless public release of the photos, he indicated that their evidentiary impact on the case may be limited for now. However, defense attorney Roger Weeden highlighted the potential ramifications of such unprofessional conduct, particularly in the context of a trial where juror perceptions could be influenced by the actions of law enforcement.

As investigations into the matter unfold, the community demands answers and accountability from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, underscoring the need for greater transparency and adherence to established protocols in handling sensitive information and evidence.

  • Breaking Down The Jenn Soto & Stephan Sterns Interviews While Maddie Soto Went Missing
Investigators in Kissimmee have unearthed evidence that Stephan Sterns, the key suspect in the case of 13-year-old Madeline Soto's death, had been engaging in sexual abuse against her for almost two years. This revelation comes from video and photo evidence found during the investigation into her disappearance, as outlined in court affidavits filed in Osceola County and made available to the public on Tuesday. Initially released in heavily redacted form, the affidavits were later updated to include more details following the discovery of Madeline's body, albeit with some redactions remaining.

Sterns, 37, who was in a relationship with Madeline's mother, is charged with two instances of sexual battery against a minor, one of which dates back to when Madeline was 11, a crime that could lead to a death sentence upon conviction. Although Kissimmee Police Chief Betty Holland has not confirmed Madeline as the victim in these charges, the court documents reference the young girl's birth date and describe her as "the missing juvenile," indirectly linking her to the crimes.

The affidavits detail the abuse occurring from February 2022 to February 2024, covering the period from when Madeline was 11 until her disappearance. They specify two incidents captured on Sterns' phone, one in August 2022 when Madeline was 11, and another when she was 12, without specifying the date of the latter.

Further details emerged from a press conference led by Orange County Sheriff John Mina, revealing that Madeline had left messages to friends about her plans to "live in the woods" upon turning 13, coinciding with her birthday on February 22.

While Sterns is currently detained on charges related to the sexual abuse, he has not been charged in connection with Madeline's death. His arrest followed the discovery of the incriminating photos and videos on his phone. He is being held in the Osceola County Jail without bond.

Investigations pinpointed the location of many of the incidents to the apartment shared by Madeline, Sterns, and her mother in Venetian Bay Villages, Kissimmee. Madeline's mother, Jenn Soto, has not been implicated as a suspect in her daughter's disappearance or death.

The case came to public attention when Madeline was reported missing after Sterns claimed to have dropped her off at a church near her school. Evidence presented by Holland and Mina at a press conference indicated Sterns discarding Madeline's belongings in a dumpster on the morning of her disappearance. Later evidence suggested Madeline was already deceased when Sterns returned to the scene.

Madeline's body was eventually found by search teams in a wooded area in St. Cloud, bringing a tragic turn to the investigation.

  • Gruesome Discovery in Long Island Park Leads to Search for Victims' Identities
A routine morning walk turned into a scene of horror for a group of teenagers in Long Island's Southards Pond Park as they stumbled upon a severed arm on Thursday morning. The ensuing investigation uncovered even more disturbing findings, prompting authorities to launch a search for the identities of the victims.

The initial discovery, made by a student on her way to school around 8:40 a.m., led to a swift response from law enforcement after the student's father contacted 911. Suffolk County police descended upon the scene, initiating a thorough search of the area that revealed additional remains, including a severed head and leg belonging to a man, and the head, arm, and leg of a woman.

Authorities believe the bodies were recently dumped, possibly mere hours or a day before their discovery, and likely by someone in a vehicle. The scattered locations of the remains within the park suggest that the victims were killed elsewhere before being discarded at the scene.

According to Suffolk County Homicide Squad detectives, a right arm found on the eastern side of the park, approximately 20 feet from the original discovery of the left arm, bore tattoos and belonged to a man, providing crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation. However, no tattoos were found on the arms of the female victim.

As authorities work tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to this gruesome discovery, the search for additional body parts continues. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting autopsies to determine the cause of death and assist in identifying the victims.

Amidst the unfolding investigation, the Suffolk County Homicide Squad is treating the case as a homicide, emphasizing the urgency of identifying the victims and bringing justice to those responsible for this heinous act.
