Appointed by the Romans as king of Judaea, King Herod's reign was defined by great architectural projects, canny diplomacy, and tyrannical behavior. Herod even appears as an unlikely and unlikeable character in the Christmas tale; the king who ordered the execution of children in an effort to kill Jesus. But did this really happen? MIRACLES: The metaphysical concept of "miracles of angels" refers to extraordinary events, often seen as divine interventions that people attribute to the presence, actions, or communication of angels, who are considered supernatural spiritual beings that serve God. These accounts of Angelic miracles, shared in various Biblical texts and personal testimonies, include stories of miraculous healing, protection from harm, receiving important messages, and experiencing profound spiritual guidance or unexplained fortunate outcomes.

This is a reminder that every episode of the Historical Jesus podcast designated with the word EXTRA is fully dedicated to the enthralling epic STORY OF AMERICA. One cannot underestimate the importance Christianity and its powerful message greatly shaped the colonization of the United States of America. The Bible is the most significant book in the Western canon. It’s also the book upon which the post antiquity Western civilization was built upon, including the exploring and settlement of America by European nations. Although modern America is now populated by adherents to all of the world’s religions, as well as secular atheists and agnostics, one should never undervalue the key role played by Christianity in the early Judeo-Christian foundation and later development of the USA. Those of you who choose NOT to come along for the ride, can simply skip these EXTRA episodes and continue enjoying my regular Historical Jesus shows. I do, however, hope you will join me on this exciting historical chronicle and adventure.

The story of Jesus starts under a monarch named Herod. He was called ‘King of the Jews,’ and ruled Judea from 40 to the year 4 BC. His reputation for paranoia and ruthlessness was well deserved, having executed three of his own sons, and slaughtered all the baby boys in Bethlehem following the birth of Jesus, according to the Gospel of Matthew.
