Todd and James are back and join me to take your questions! We discuss the brew days we’ve had during the quarantine, the upcoming Virtual Big Brew Day hosted by the AHA, and questions from you such as how to tell if your beer has been oxidized, getting rid of isoamyl acetate, and if nitro is necessary for dispensing the Guinness clone recipe kit.

My favorite Director of Operations for Homebrew Supply, Mr. Ladik Joe Ermis, was able to join me today to help take YOUR questions! We discussed the recipe rush going on right now (a TON of you are ordering recipes and it’s fantastic), next month’s Patreon recipe kit options (yes, you read that right: we’re bringing back OPTIONS!), and we also take questions submitted by our wonderful audience that cover a wide variety of topics. It was a fun show to produce and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

We have a real treat for you guys: Jonathan Ettlie from National Chemicals joined Todd and I to discuss a number of things in the cleaning / sanitizing realm. Jonathan is an avid, longtime homebrewer who we’ve known for a while. He’s a key accounts manager at National Chemicals, the company behind some of our favorite cleaning and sanitizing products such as the QA Disinfectant and my Pop’s favorite sanitizer, BTF Iodophor Sanitizer!

Todd and James were able to join me and take YOUR questions such as best practices when cleaning beer glassware at home, keeping up with maintenance on your kegerator/keezer lines, specifically the beer/liquid lines, and we also took a question about storing bulk ingredients such as grains, hops, and yeast. It was a packed show and we had a blast recording it!

Todd and James join me this week for another fun-filled episode. We had JUST finished recording this week’s episode of Recipe Recap & Review, so pardon us if we’re still giddy from the delicious beer we drank for that show. If you missed out, check out the episode here https://www.homebrewhappyhour.com/recipe-recap-review-ep-05-my-first-pale-ale/
For THIS show, we catch up on brew days we’ve completed, talk about some upcoming stuff, and take YOUR questions. Specifically, we cover whether boiling your wort for an hour is arbitrary or intentional, how to calculate when to add hops in case you had to boil down your wort for the sake of gravity, and best practices when storing your jockey box. We kind of cover the spectrum in this episode and we had a great time doing it!

Todd was out but James was able to join me and help take a couple of intermediate-type questions for this week’s episode! It’s always nice when we can dig in to more complex topics and Mr. Carlson is the man when it comes to helping me understand. Specifically, we discussed the differences between RIMS and HERMS systems and why one may work better than the other in certain situations, and we also talked about brew house and mash effeciencies. It was a great show!

First and foremost – we hope you are hanging in there and keeping healthy during these weird times. “Weird” is about as appropriate word as we can think of. I said this in a newsletter and I’ll say it again — if you need anything, ANYTHING, that we can provide or help you with then please don’t hesitate to ask. We love you guys and will get through all of this together.
On the show — James and Todd join me, remotely, to take your questions on adjusting your brew days when life throws you lemons (i.e – when you’re in quarantine at home!), choosing a grain mill to buy, and mill settings when crushing grains for partial mash brewing.
