Hound Dog Podcast Network by The Sportsmen's Empire

The relationship between Houndsmen and trappers is unique in a way that makes us very closely related. We have a deep respect and understanding of the same wildlife species, we share certain romantic view of our lifestyles and we share the hatred from the animal rights fanatics that want to shut us down.

On this episode of the Houndsman XP Podcast, host, Chris Powell, talks with life long trapper Charlie Maschek and his son in law Justin Jett. Charlie is also the owner of Hoosier Trapper Supply, one of the countries oldest and largest trapping and outdoor trap supply businesses. Charlie has been a licensed fur buyer and buying agent for the old Hundson Bay Company.

Charlie, Justin and Chris discuss the fur market, what has happened to it and where it is headed. They talk about the glory days of the 20th century fur boom and the characters who participated. They tell old stories and predict the future for trappers and Houndsmen.

Most Houndsmen need trapping supplies at one time or another. Check out Hoosier Trapper Supply at:

The Journey on the Houndsman XP Podcast Network is on a quest to find the most elite trainers in the world. Heath goes to Spain, via interwebs, to visit with one of the premier man trailing experts of today's time, Miguel Carbajal Porto. Due to a language barrier Heath has Louis Baglietto translate for Miguel.

They cover things from odor foundation to the issues that visual stimulation causes in trailing training. Miguel walks Heath through the three stages of training a dog to cold trail. They discuss how important it is to finish each step of training before moving on. Heath ends this episode with a question that every hound hunter questions. You’ll have to tune in to the learning packed hour to find out.

Louis is a retired British K9 police instructor with over 30 years in the dog training world. Miguel is a school teacher that was raised with hunting dogs. Miguel switched to man trailing because of the love of trailing. He has written two books, while he is working on the third. Miguel has also invented an awesome tool to help assist him in the training of trailing dogs. (Listen in to hear about it) Louis and Miguel travel around teaching and trailing dogs throughout the country. Miguel's training method is embedded deep in the natural instincts which drive a dog to trail. The three barely scratch the surface on Miguel's training methodologies. There is so much information in this, you may want to listen twice. The Journey is just warming up, you don’t want to miss this one.

When the Utah Houndsmen Association faced an attack on the mountain lion they searched for all of the allies they could. Among the biggest, baddest and well armed is Safari Club International (SCI). SCI stepped up to the plate and offered support to continue the fight for Houndsmen in the State of Utah.

On this episode of the Houndsman XP Podcast host, Chris Powell is joined by Chris Tymeson from SCI and is covering issues in our western states. Chris describes his advocacy and the mission of SCI as covering everything from rabbits to rhinos.

Once again Houndsman XP is bridging the gaps between our hound hunting community and the most powerful allies we can have as hunters.

It is no secret that Seth and Chad love a great Hare course and in turn love to meet great folks who represent our lifestyle to a high level in interesting ways. Welcome to the stage, Mr. Ernest Abresch. Ernest has run different breeds over his long tenure of coursing but has focused on a breed that is little represented in American coursing; the Afghan Hound. Ernest keeps it fun, interesting, and entertaining as he tells us about this beautiful and very ancient hunting dog and how they are being used in the desert southwest of modern America. Get ready folks, this episode is off and running at full steam!

The Spirit of the hunter and the tenacity of the dog is a mutual bond that transcends languages and cultures.

On this episode of the Houndsman XP Podcast, host, Chris Powell is joined by Per Englund. Per is a contracted government hunter, hound handler for bear research and hardcore bear hunter and he is from Sweden.

There may be many differences in the language, customs and culture but listeners will get a full understanding that the excitement of hunting with great dogs is the same wherever we call home.
