It all starts with why, why we do what we do.

On a short trip to North Carolina for a spring bear chase, Heath and Brent have a great conversation. They talk about the why, why do you hunt with dogs? why do you train dogs? They talk about what drives their why.

As the conversation continues they get into their most memorable hunts. Brent tells the story of having his granddad on a hunt and was able to harvest his first bear. Heath reminiscences how hard it was to catch his first bear by himself, which took years to accomplish. They finish off with one of the most scary moments they’ve had while chasing one of the most magnificent animals the east coast has to offer. This is all about the Journey. How did yours start?

The Journey is rooted  deep in teaching, training and learning. While on a recent trip with Freedom Hunters, Heath met a veteran with a medical alert K9. After a conversation with the owner, Brian, Heath decided to learn more about how we are using dogs to prevent medical emergencies. In this episode Heath talks to Dr. Jennifer Cattet about the process of selection, training and the vital roll these dogs play in the medical world. Dr Cattet received her PHD in animal behavior and psychology. She started a K9 program in the prison system in 2008 and quickly learned how the dog could assist on the medical side with inmates. What we learn is no matter what task, function or purpose we all use the dogs for their superior senses and abilities. The natural instincts of the dog are going to blow your mind on this episode of the Journey.

Darren hunts with West Siberian Laikas but has numerous breeds over his lifetime and trained them to Xtreme Performance levels.

Heath and Darren have a load back chat between professional dog trainers. Listeners will get the opportunity to increase their knowledge when they hear how the pros do it.
