This week, we discuss how the way set point theory is used in healthcare and the ED recovery community is rooted in fatphobia, and can be a contributing factor in preventing people from fully recovering. Many recovery modalities are based on assumptions on how ‘sick’ someone could really be based on their body size, which is also used as a barometer for how they are progressing through recovery (EW, we know.). We know there’s a delicate balance between meeting your client where they are and challenging them with a HAES, body neutrality + anti-fatphobic perspective – and we discuss how to do so in this episode.  This also carries over into advanced recovery and intuitive eating – where people feel like they are failing in recovery because they don’t know what to actually eat!
