Heat has a significant effect on increasing blood glucose levels during stressful periods in livestock. 

Production of the stress hormone, Cortisol, during chronic stress suppresses the immune system. The long duration of heat stress (Temperatures above 75° F} and the continuous release of gluco-corticoids may result in increased inflammation, slowing of the immune system, poor growth and lowering of fertility in bovine.
