In this episode, we kick off a two-part series on how to approach conversations with friends who are hesitant to try weed. Learn from experts about easing concerns around health, safety, and the fear of getting too high. Whether you're looking to educate or simply offer reassurance, we’ve got the tips to help your friends feel more confident about cannabis. Thank you to our guests Caitlyn Krebs, Dr. Jessica Knox, Dominique White, Kia Baker, Rosie Mattio, Dr. Deondra Asike, Coco Meers, Dr. Lauren Streicher, Sandra Guynes, and Kristi Palmer.
“If Cannabis is a part of your life, talk about it more openly. If I’m a mother of four and I’m having these conversations with my daughter and it’s my business, I need to be more open about my consumption and have those conversations people so they can get more comfortable around it because the more we’re educating, the more we’re de-stigmatizing, the more comfort people will be in being at a choice for their life.” - Rosie Mattio

In part two of our Weed & Workouts series, we delve into the reasons why cannabis is banned in Olympic competition, despite not being performance enhancing. We discover why active people are incorporating cannabis into their fitness routines for increased motivation, better recovery, and an enhanced "runner's high," and get valuable tips from people across the country who have found a new workout buddy in cannabis. Whether you're a casual gym-goer or a dedicated athlete, learn why more and more fitness enthusiasts are turning to weed to elevate their exercise experience.
“I usually take it about 20 minutes before I go for a run. That transition into the meditative state where it just seems smoother and easier, it's just really nice. I find myself getting lost, not even really paying attention to where I'm going. It becomes almost an outer body experience and it's really lovely.”

In this final episode of our Pride Series, we’re celebrating how far we’ve come with managing HIV and reflecting on the courage it took to persevere through the AIDS crisis. You’ll hear from Natalie Wilson, PhD, a dedicated advocate working to eliminate new HIV infections by 2030, and revisit insights from Dr. Donald Abrams, a pioneer in studying cannabis for AIDS patients. We hope that listening to this series has shed light on the love that led to cannabis legalization, and inspired you with the resilience and ongoing efforts within the LGBTQ+ community.
"There are people who are living with HIV that never go to a diagnosis of AIDS. The field has done a really great job at starting medications really early to suppress the virus so that people's immune systems can maintain the integrity to protect the person from infections or these disorders that people have. So the prognosis is really good. If we can catch somebody early in a diagnosis and start medications they have a very long life. It is not going to impact them like the old days." - Natalie Wilson

In the second episode of our Pride Series, we speak with Dr. Donald Abrams, a pioneering AIDS doctor and cannabis advocate who was on the front lines during the 1980s AIDS crisis. Dr. Abrams shares how the loss of his partner inspired his groundbreaking efforts to study the medical use of cannabis for AIDS patients. Learn about the community's response to the crisis in San Francisco, the birth of medical cannabis, and how these efforts sparked a national legalization movement. This episode delves into the resilience and unity of the LGBTQ+ community and explores the ongoing impact of cannabis in medical treatments.
“As a young gay doctor, one of the hardest things for me was when a patient's parents came from the East coast and they learned for the first time that their son was gay, that their son had AIDS, and their son was dying. That was a very powerful experience as a young doctor, to have to transmit that information to parents who were really quite devastated by learning that news.”

Discover how delivering cannabis brownies to AIDS patients provided relief and hope, and learn about the pivotal role this played in sparking a national legalization movement for medical cannabis. Celebrate Pride with us and hear these remarkable stories of courage, advocacy, and the enduring fight for compassionate use legislation that led California to become the first state to legalize medical cannabis in 1996.
“I’d be on the playground and people would be using homophobic epithets and associating queerness with weakness. And so I was like, oh no, that's strength, that's real power. Real strength is to be who you are, whether or not it's acceptable to other people, that's balls. It really did shape how I understand strength and how I see the world, in very fundamental ways and I feel fortunate to have grown up in the community that I did, even in dark times.” - Alia Volz
