In today's episode, we're going to talk about how to recession-proof your business. The reason why I wanted to do this episode is because I went to a conference a couple of weeks ago and almost everyone was talking about this upcoming recession and was freaking out about it. So I thought I should do an episode about what I think of recession, what you can do to prepare, and my tips on how to deal with it.
In our agency each month, we deep-dive into the trends that are happening across the board with our clients and also in eCommerce to see what's up, what's down, how our clients individually compare to our clients collectively and within the industry.
What's really interesting is that within September and October trends, we can see that a lot of online stores are 30%-50% down from the previous year. This isn't surprising considering we had the COVID eCommerce boom where pretty much anyone who sold anything online could do it without any effort, and that's coming to an end.
We're potentially headed into an economic downturn. But interestingly, brands that are seen as essentials such as baby items, have actually seen an increase of 30%-50% year on year. So have a look at the trends and the numbers. Take the emotion out of it and just look at the data.
Having said that, let's get into my tips on how to recession-proof your online store!
