Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s I-80 Football Show. On this show, we travel down I-80 to talk all things Big Ten Football. This is the only Big Ten Podcast that’ll cover all 18 teams. After every week of action, we will catch you up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players you should be paying attention to for the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
Last weekend was magical in college football, taking the spotlight from Saturday, October 12th, a day marked on the calendar since the summer due to multiple top-25 matchups and a big Southern rivalry. So of course Dante and Jordan make a logical detour from their trip through the Big Ten to argue the GOAT debate. Jordan, Kobe, or LeBron, who do you have? Should Ohioans and Cavs fans still be mad at LeBron for ‘The Decision’? Dante believes Lebron's finals resume is revisionist history, and Jordan thinks people are disrespecting namely the Spurs in hating on LeBrons finals record.
After a while, the guys get back on the highway to review the previous week including Ohio State dominating Iowa on both sides of the line of scrimmage, something we haven't seen since the Urban Meyer era. Washington, a year after having one of the game's best offenses led by a first-round draft pick at quarterback and wide receiver, has turned into a Big Ten West Program. They out Michigan’d Michigan en route to an upset while Minnesota brought the same game plan against USC showing Lincoln Riley that it was not going to be easy to win a game in the Big Ten. After three straight games against the same style of play, USC is being welcomed into the conference while Lincoln Riley is being exposed for his lack of development. The guys wonder how long he’ll last at USC before he tries to find a job elsewhere.
This weekend was set up to be a major showcase of the season and in some cases that holds. Ohio State plays Oregon in a top-three showdown that won’t serve as a playoff eliminator but could prove to be an eliminator from the Big Ten championship and show who is a real national championship contender. After losing to Minnesota, USC welcomes Penn State in a game that could get ugly if Penn State lives up to its pre-season hype. How does USC defend the Penn State running game? If they lose back-to-back games their season could begin to spiral. In our MapQuest section, USC-Penn State and Ohio State-Oregon are must-watch games in the mid-day and primetime slots. The Friday night and After Dark slots are worth watching but at noon you could keep an eye on Washington-Iowa while watching other national games.
In their pitstop, Jordan laughs at the five-minute clip from the Paul Finebaum show of an Alabama fan ranting after their upset loss to Vanderbilt.
