Idiot's Guide to Ayurveda with Millennial Sahara Rose

Listen Later

I’ve talked to a bunch of millennials lately for the podcast about their wellness careers, and it’s great to see so many young women who are going into these professions. It makes me so happy! Having so many brilliant young women going into wellness really inspires me. Today’s guest is Sahara Rose, author of The Idiot’s Guide to Ayurveda. Isn’t that awesome? At just 26 years old, she’s aiming to connect with millennials and draw them deeper into all the benefits that come along with learning Ayurveda and getting in touch with their bodies.

I rap with Sahara Rose about:

  • Getting millennials interested in Ayurveda
  • How deadlines can increase flow, balance you, and work to your benefit
  • The importance of interconnectivity and becoming attuned to our ecosystems, the seasons, what’s growing outdoors, and our desires

What you’ll get out of tuning in:

  • Learn how Ayurvedic principles can be applied — in your own way — to your diet (and just about anything)
  • See how we can trick ourselves into thinking we’re being healthful when we’re really eating an unbalanced diet — and how to get back in balance
  • Discover how to cut through information overload to connect with other generations

Show Highlights:

  • 5:50 — Sahara outlines the biggest takeaways and learnings from writing books and having to work up her pitta to get through deadlines. One thing that stuck with her was the beauty of having a deadline and how it pushed her to tap into creativity in unexpected ways.
  • 9:15 — Sahara explains the health crisis that guided her to Ayurveda and why she initially resisted the idea before using Ayurvedic principles to tailor her diet to meet her needs.
  • 16:00 — We’re mammals, and our bodies want to naturally attune to the seasons and the climate. It’s important to let them, because this helps us maintain connectivity with our environment and get into flow with ecosystem attunement.
  • 18:30 — When people are living in a state of service and can understand why they were put on our planet — for specific reasons that only their souls can fulfill — they realize their true importance. They want to feel their best because they realize their purpose and see how their individual piece fits into the broader global puzzle. Getting in touch with this dharma is an important teaching for millennials — and everyone.
  • 20:00 — Ayurveda is about interpreting and honoring each individual’s personal experience. When they understand why they naturally feel a certain way and have certain habits, they can see how following their natural rhythms encourages better health and a feeling of ease.
