  • Ep 058: The Commission’s hot summer

Attention turns to the UK Gambling Commission, as last week executive director for policy development Tim Miller announced that the regulator was ready to publish its first series of Gambling Review Consultations.

As such the UKGC is expected to publish four consultations on regulatory outcomes related to age verification, remote games design, direct marketing and cross-selling, and financial risk and vulnerability checks.

The publishing of the White Paper’s consultations will mark the end of the purgatory UK gambling has been sentenced under its review.

Yet, for the Commission concerns and skepticism remain on its long-term strategy, enforcement powers and handling of key issues and stakeholders.

Joining James Ross on the latest episode of iGaming Daily, sponsored by SBC Summit Barcelona, to discuss the latest White Paper developments is Andrew McCarron, Managing Director at SBC.

Additionally, SBC News Senior Journalist Jessie Sale joins later on in the podcast live from iGB in Amsterdam, to give her live report from day one of the affiliate conference at the RAI.

  • Ep 056: Did Massachusetts go 21 and over the top?

Age-gating is one of the topics du jour in US sports betting and online gambling but is it an instance of all action and not enough talk?

Massachusetts recently took unprecedented steps around sports betting logos in sports arenas. Meanwhile, across the pond, the UK Advertising Standards Authority said a sportsbook using Jake Paul for engagement was unacceptable given his young audience.

But do we even know that these actions will have an impact? That will be the topic of today’s discussion of iGaming Daily, sponsored by SBC Summit Barcelona, with Jessica Welman and Charlie Horner.

  • Ep 053: Could regulation usher in a new era for Brazilian sponsorship?

InsiderSport editor Joe Streeter returns to host today's episode of the iGaming Daily podcast, and he's brought in the big guns for a discussion on sports sponsorship in Brazil.

Joined by SBC Noticias Senior Journalist Fernando Noodt-Molins, SBC Sponsorship Director George Harborne, and the marketing director at Brazilian agency AllSports Events, Marcel Hein.

The guys discussed the current state-of-play with regards to gambling sponsorship, with the majority of clubs in the top two tiers already emblazoned with a bookmaker logo, Betano's sponsorship of the Brazilian Serie B, and the impact of the market saturation on the sponsorship front.

They went on to discuss what the inevitable changes in the regulatory framework will mean for the Brazilian sponsorship climate, and what, if any, has been the backlash so far.

Additionally, with Brazil in the midst of a match-fixing scandal, how has this impacted the optics of these deals for clubs, fans and media, and will this lead to a change in tack for the operators?

  • Ep 051: Germany...Interstate to where?

Germany's Fourth Interstate market (GlüNeuRStv) has celebrated its second birthday since it was forced into existence in July 2021, ending a 12-year deliberation on how Germany would apply its online gambling laws federally across its 16 sovereign Bundeslander.

On the ground, 2023 was marked as a year of transition as the newly formed Gluecksspiel (GGL), the new federal authority for gambling would take charge of governing the much-maligned Interstate regime.

Yet six months on, the GGL is yet to present any plans to reform the interstate market laws or to remove any commercial restrictions frustrating licensees and stakeholders.

Last week the GGL presented its first market report on the Interstate Regime, citing growth and new license take-up – yet its incumbents remain unconvinced of any subsequent progress…

Martyn Elliott, SBC's Senior Media Manager, is joined by Ted Menmuir (Editor) and Ted Orme-Claye (Senior Journalist), both of SBC News to discuss all of this and more.

  • Ep 050: Does new NCAA betting policy make the grade?

The off-season has been busy for sports leagues as they all are taking time to rethink how they approach their sports betting policies. This week the NCAA revised its position on the subject for the first major post-PASPA changes.

The NBA also updated its CBA with respect to betting, and the NFL? Well, the NFL apparently has even more players to suspend for violating the betting policy.

What do these changes look like? Who’s handling things best? Who’s handling things the worst? Jessica Welman, alongside Charlie Horner tackle all those questions and more on today’s episode of iGaming Daily, sponsored by SBC Summit Barcelona.
