  • Organising Chaos, Sparking Belonging

Joanne Lockwood is joined by learning and development leader Amanda Van Der Heiden to unpack what it really means to “organise chaos” and spark belonging at work. They explore why belonging is more than a DEI policy line—it’s a felt experience of being seen, heard, and valued—and how that feeling can be created (or undermined) through everyday communication, leadership habits, and organisational choices.

Amanda shares how growing up between Kentucky and New York shaped her ability to navigate different worlds, connect across perspectives, and translate complexity into people-centred momentum. She also reflects on being visibly different due to piebaldism and what that taught her about empathy, assumptions, and inclusion.

Together, they discuss practical approaches for bridging divides in polarised times: balancing authenticity with respect, adapting communication styles to different audiences, asking “why” to get to root causes, and supporting people through change. The conversation also touches on post-COVID shifts such as return-to-office expectations, the importance of trust, and how leaders can set people up for success by focusing on autonomy, intent, transparency, and strengths.

  • Love In Motion

Joanne Lockwood is joined by speech-language pathologist, author, and inclusive fashion founder Denise Cesare for a wide-ranging conversation about self-love, resilience, and what it means to be seen and heard when your voice and body don’t match social expectations.

Denise describes living with spasmodic dysphonia after a car accident, the impact of years without a reliable speaking voice, and what it took to advocate for herself in medical settings and at work. From that difficult period, she explains how her creative energy became a route back to confidence and connection, ultimately leading to the creation of T Suit: swimmable, versatile garments designed to help people feel comfortable and empowered in and out of the water.

The discussion broadens into body image and the damage caused by size-based fashion norms, the lasting mental-health effects of COVID-era isolation (especially for young people), and why mindfulness is a practice rather than a slogan. Throughout, Denise and Joanne return to a consistent message: resilience grows when self-worth is protected, community is nurtured, and compassion becomes practical action in everyday life.

  • Animating Queer Futures

Joanne Lockwood is joined by AJ Hannah, founder and creative director of FWDIO Studios, to talk about what it takes to build an indie animation studio committed to unapologetically queer, more representative storytelling. AJ shares why “a gayer and more colourful Disney” isn’t just a tagline, but a response to mainstream decisions that dilute or censor LGBTQ+ narratives and limit who gets to lead creative work.

They explore how authenticity is created not only through characters on screen, but through who writes, storyboards, directs, and voices them. AJ describes casting choices that match lived experience, the value of collaboration and cultural consultation, and the responsibility that comes with representing communities well.

The conversation also gets practical: the realities of funding animation through sponsorships and Kickstarter, paying artists fairly in an industry where unpaid work is common, and building a sustainable model without giving up creative control. Alongside the business and craft, AJ reflects on identity, safety, resilience, and the determination to keep making work in the face of political backlash and anti-DEI sentiment.

  • Beyond Performative Inclusion

Joanne Lockwood is joined by coach and leadership specialist Sile Walsh to unpack what it means to go beyond performative inclusion in organisations. They explore how inclusion shows up in everyday leadership practice, and why psychological safety and a well-designed environment often matter more than surface-level gestures.

Sile shares how identity, culture and lived experience shape how we are perceived and how we belong, reflecting on growing up between Ireland and the UK and the ways people adapt—or translate—themselves to be understood. The conversation also examines gender and labels, highlighting the tension between how individuals relate to identity and how workplaces and societies categorise people.

Together, they challenge common workplace mantras such as “bring your whole self to work,” discuss the risks of moral certainty and polarisation, and consider how leaders can create boundaries for dialogue without shutting it down. They emphasise curiosity, compassionate accountability, and practical leadership behaviours that reduce harm and support performance, rather than inclusion that is framed as simply “being nice.”

  • Joyful Energy, Unbreakable Spirit

Joanne Lockwood speaks with author and speaker Naseem Rochette about what it means to survive a life-altering traumatic event and consciously choose a different story afterward.

Naseem recounts being hit and run over by a car three times in a pedestrian crosswalk, the physical aftermath (including ongoing effects of a traumatic brain injury), and the emotional impact of navigating other people’s reactions—especially the driver’s lack of remorse. She shares how that experience pushed her into a period of instability and the need for additional support, including trauma therapy and medication.

Together, they explore the practical power of reframing: naming the anniversary “Unbreakable Day,” choosing words and energy intentionally, learning to accept help, and allowing vulnerability to deepen relationships. They also discuss how showing the “whole picture” (rather than a curated perfection) can create more genuine connection and belonging.

The conversation leaves listeners with a grounded message: difficult moments can become turning points, not by denying pain, but by meeting it with kindness, perspective, and deliberate choices about what to carry forward.

  • Leadership, Learning And Belonging

Joanne Lockwood is joined by Dr Cedric Howard to explore how leadership, learning, and belonging intersect in higher education and beyond. Cedric reflects on the formative crisis that shaped his career: the Rodney King verdict and the racialised unrest it triggered on his campus, where his instinct to de-escalate and protect community became a turning point into educational leadership.

From there, the conversation moves into what inclusive leadership looks like in practice—grounding decisions in context, translating policy into human stories, and ensuring the people most affected (students) are at the heart of decision-making. Cedric discusses how institutions often mirror the societies they sit within, and why clarity comes from combining content with context.

Alongside insights on systems and leadership, Cedric shares personal lessons about breaking cycles of poverty through education and skill-building, including the family expectation set by his grandmother that transformed generational outcomes. Joanne and Cedric also unpack why failure, grit, and resilience matter, challenging “everyone gets a trophy” thinking and offering practical ways to build capability and confidence over time.

  • Raising Vibrations Together

Joanne Lockwood is joined by holistic health advocate Dariya Krasnova to explore what it means to “raise vibrations” through authenticity, self-responsibility, and more conscious approaches to wellbeing.

Dariya shares her migration journey from Vladivostok to Munich and then Glasgow, reflecting on integration, belonging, and the importance of genuine human connection. Together they discuss how identity labels can shape assumptions, and why finding aligned relationships and communities can be essential when you start living more authentically.

The episode also tackles health and wellbeing in modern society: over-reliance on Western medicine for chronic issues, the impact of ultra-processed food, stress, and lifestyle on physical and mental health, and the role of complementary approaches. Dariya outlines practical first steps—being more intentional about food, time in nature, stress reduction, and self-awareness—and emphasises that lasting change comes from curiosity and personal accountability rather than waiting for a crisis to force a reset.

  • The Art Of Authentic Living

Joanne Lockwood is joined by New York-based actor and multi-hyphenate creative Sam Turlington for a wide-ranging conversation about what it means to live authentically. Sam reflects on how curiosity and empathy shaped their path into performance, and how acting created unexpected routes into self-understanding, identity exploration, and more truthful storytelling.

Together they talk about representation in creative spaces, including when the arts feel welcoming and when they don’t. Sam shares experiences of bringing their identity to roles across genders, collaborating with directors and writers on the narrative implications of casting, and even adapting scripts and pronouns to make nonbinary identity visible and coherent within a production.

The discussion also touches on the lived realities of being visibly different—through gender expression and body size—and how everyday environments can be built without some bodies in mind. Against a backdrop of political pressure on queer communities in the US and UK, Sam describes “joy as resistance” and the importance of community connection, resilience, and finding places where people can both challenge and celebrate together.

  • Healing At The Heart

Joanne Lockwood is joined by personal development coach Jared Karol to explore what it means to bring equanimity to difficult conversations—and why inner healing matters for sustainable social change. Together they unpack how people often respond to pressure and marginalisation by either shutting down or fighting back, and what it can look like to stay present, open, and grounded instead.

Jared shares the origins of his approach, including the impact of his father being a gay man who later died of AIDS, and how that experience shaped his commitment to social justice work. He reflects on his early years of activism, when certainty and snark felt effective, and the gradual shift toward a more mature, healing-centred “how” that prioritises emotional regulation, connection, and long-term impact.

Across the discussion they consider the difference between passion and purpose, the risks of performative outrage, and the way online interactions can accelerate polarisation. The episode closes with practical invitations—such as mindfulness and centring connection—to help listeners show up consciously and compassionately in the work of inclusion and change.

  • From Textbook To Triumph

Joanne Lockwood is joined by entrepreneur and author Scott Grates for a wide-ranging conversation about how people build trust, opportunity, and impact through relationships.

Scott shares how he built his career and businesses through relationship marketing, focusing on long-term reciprocity rather than transactional networking. Together, they unpack what personal branding looks like in a digital world, how to show up with authenticity, and why empathy and human connection remain central even as AI tools accelerate content creation and business efficiency.

The conversation also turns to confidence, resilience, and learning through failure—especially for younger people navigating social media comparison, imposter feelings, and shifting expectations. Scott explains the approaches he uses with students to build self-belief and critical thinking, while Joanne reflects on how experience and setbacks shape a steadier, more resilient mindset over time.

Listeners come away with practical perspectives on leveraging AI responsibly, strengthening real-world communication and community ties, and building a personal brand rooted in values and trust.
