  • Economic crisis: Venezuela's currency chaos
This week, we look at how desperate Venezuelans are searching for ways to cope with the currency crisis. This week, the new 500 bolivar note arrived to replace the 100 bolivar note after the Venezuelan president claimed that mafia groups abroad are hoarding them to suffocate the economy. He also temporarily closed Venezuela's borders but then backpeddled on the decision, effectively allowing thousands of people to cross into Colombia to buy much needed medicine and food. Josh Vardey reports. Also, we take a look at how US president-elect Donald Trump is having journalists tear their hair out by replacing traditional press conferences with tweets. Since his November election, Trump hasn’t held a single press conference, and is instead relying on Twitter as his communication tool of choice. The move means that many journalists’ questions remain unanswered as the media prepare to cover a man wary of their very existence. Julia Sieger reports.
Finally, Hollywood is mourning the death of its’ first-ever IT girl: Hungarian actress and socialite Zsa Zsa Gabor. Gabor died earlier this week at the age of 99, just a few months shy of her 100th birthday. Catherine Clifford takes a look back at Gabor’s life.

  • US presidential transition: Why is Rex Tillerson so controversial?
This week, we introduce you to the next US secretary of state: Rex Tillerson. The CEO of oil and gas giant ExxonMobil is said to have a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding fuel to the fire of claims that Trump will tilt his foreign policy towards Moscow. But, as Clement Bonnerot explains, Tillerson's nomination still needs Senate approval. We also bring you a report from Chile, where it's 10 years since the death of Augusto Pinochet, who ruled the country with an iron fist from 1973 to 1990. While for some he's remembered as having saved Chile from communism, for many others he's the dictator whose regime killed thousands.
And finally, with more than 1.6 million tons of avocados exported last year, Mexico's economy relies on the fruit. But now environmentalists are sounding the alarm at the rate of deforestation involved in growing them. Our journalist Mariam Saab tells us more.

This week, we tell you more about the food crisis in Venezuela. The economic crisis has left people lining up outside emptying supermarkets, desperate for food. And the situation is now hitting the population's health. Many Venezuelans have been inadvertently losing weight. Some have even started joking about the "Maduro Diet". But for vulnerable populations, particularly children, malnutrition is no laughing matter. Our correspondents Laurence Cuvillier and Mathieu Comin report from Venezuela. Also, President-elect Donald Trump has been tweeting again, and US-China relations may never be the same. Our journalist Catherine Viette explains why.
And one of America's greatest landmarks is in danger. The Grand Canyon is  increasingly threatened by man-made dangers, as Catherine Clifford reports.
