Listen to episode 682 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Mastering the Art of Self-Control. Edited and adapted from Character Sketches for Boys and Girls by Henry Davenport Northrop.
Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: A strong temper is not necessarily a bad temper. But the stronger the temper, the greater the need for self-discipline and self- control. It is not our faults that ruin us, so much as the manner in which we conduct ourselves after the faults have been committed. The wise person will profit by the suffering they cause, and avoid them in the future; but there are those on whom experience exerts no ripening influence, and who only grow narrower, bitterer, and more vicious with time.

Listen to episode 681 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Turning Hard Times Into Blessings. Edited and adapted from Character Sketches for Boys and Girls by Henry Davenport Northrop.
Inspirational Podcast Transcript: You may go to school all your life and yet be a dunce. Your head may be a library stuffed with book knowledge, yet you may not know enough to hoe a hill of beans. You may lack that practical wisdom which make a success of life. You may have talents bright as the sun, yet be dependent on very ordinary people. You may be a know-everything, and a do-nothing.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: A character that is sound, that rings as the perfect bell does, is the character you must have if you would make the most of life. You cannot conceal your flaws. And any attempt to do so, will soon be detected. You must be what you seem to be, and what you profess to be. As in the making of a bell, the material that goes into the making of your character must be of good quality, and there must be no flaws in the casting. You are going to have heavy blows struck upon you in life, and a cracked character is a very poor possession to have on hand.
Listen to episode 679 of the Inspirational Living podcast: The Path of Cheerfulness | Happiness Podcasts. Edited and adapted from Character Sketches for Boys and Girls by Henry Davenport Northrop.
Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: The influence that a cheerful person has on others is almost limitless. You probably have known people within whose company you felt uplifted, amiable and hopeful, equal to anything! I do not know a more enviable gift than the energy to sway others to good; to diffuse around others an atmosphere of cheerfulness, generosity, magnanimity. It is not a matter of great talent; nor entirely a matter of great energy; but rather of earnestness and honesty — a quiet, constant energy which is like soft rain gently penetrating the soil.

Listen to episode 678 of the Inspirational Living podcast: The Ultimate Aim of Life | Uplifting Podcasts. Edited and adapted from Fundamentals of Success by Hiram Abiff Boaz.
Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Every person ought to have some definite goal, a specific purpose worthy of their best effort — for without this object in view, you cannot accomplish anything worthwhile, nor can your life reach its highest efficiency and significance.
There may be many secondary objects in view, some of them of more or less importance, but there ought to be some great ultimate aim that serves as your guiding star, one to which all the minor details are put into accord.

Today’s reading was edited and adapted from Happiness by Arthur James Kappele, published in 1919.
Today I would like to share with you some thoughts on happiness and living a happy life. First of all, be grateful for kindness shown to you. And see to it that you return a good deed, with interest, if the opportunity presents itself, or, better yet, make the opportunity — lest you forget.
On the other hand, if another person tries to show you their appreciation for some kind act, do not make it hard for them to repay you. Instead, anticipate their wish and meet them half way, thus assisting them on the road to happiness by helping them fulfill their desire.
Listen to episode 677 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Avoid These Failure Traps | Success Podcasts. Edited and adapted from Fundamentals of Success by Hiram Abiff Boaz.
Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: No normal person wants to fail. Failure takes the sparkle from the eye, the color from the cheek, the edge from the intellect, and the nerve from the arm. The sense of failure depresses and dejects. It takes the sunshine out of life and brings the shadow. It takes joy from the heart, and spreads sorrow and gloom. To fail utterly robs life of all satisfaction and contentment, and fills it with misery and disappointment.
And yet many do fail. Failures are on every hand. There must be some cause for all these unhappy failures. What is it? ...

Listen to episode 676 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Mastering the Game of Life | Motivational Podcasts. Edited and adapted from C’mon Up by Franklin Fillmore Farrington.
Motivational Podcast Excerpt: Some people have called life a voyage, where we steer for a certain port. Some say it is a climb from the valleys of labor to some great mountain peak of rest. Others call it a journey down a sunlit road that now and then has a shadow. I do not disagree with any of this, but I call life a game. It is a wonderful game. And we all want to win, and we all may win.

Listen to episode 675 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Building the Habit of Right Thinking | Positive Affirmations. Edited and adapted from How to Stay Well by Christian D. Larson.
Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: Wrong thought is the root of all evil. Right thought is the cause of all good. The art of right thinking, therefore, becomes one of the highest arts in existence, and its attainment one of the noblest aims of the human soul. To think right is to think the truth. Therefore, the art of right thinking is cultivated by training the mind to think the truth.
The average mind has been thinking wrong thoughts for so long that wrong thinking has become a habit — a very undesirable habit, as we all know. This habit we must overcome if we would have perfect health, happiness, and success. And the only way to overcome bad habits is to cultivate good ones.

The great essential for increasing thought power, and using that power to achieve better health and greater success, is to live constantly in the conviction that you have within yourself all the power that you may require for any purpose — for to think more power is to charge every thought with more power....
