It was a heartbreaking and dramatic afternoon in court as Caleb Flynn heard directly from his two young daughters who wrote letters to him read aloud by his wife, Ashley’s family members. Alyssa and Ava Flynn told their father how much pain he’s caused them and begged him to tell the truth about killing their mother. Other members of Ashely’s family spoke directly to Flynn, including her own parents who told their former son-in-law that they forgive him. Flynn read a letter to his daughters, family members and Ashley’s family apologizing for his decisions and hateful words, but insisting that he did not kill his wife. The judge gave him stern words, and then, the maximum sentence possible: life without parole.

The former American Idol contestant who was convicted of the murder of his wife will learn how long he will remain behind bars. 40-year-old Caleb Flynn must first sit through victim impact statement from his wife Ashley’s family. Ashley’s mother, father, sister and brother-in-law are all in court, along with Flynn’s mother and father who already provided their statements for mercy to the judge. We also are learning that Caleb Flynn himself will be addressing the judge in today’s proceedings.

The headlines are brutal for Tom Cruise’s new movie ‘Digger’ with major news outlets saying the film is set to lose $150 million dollars after opening to a shocking $8 million dollar debut. The satirical black comedy actually received a decent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans giving it a 71%, but critics calling it everything from an “unintentionally bad movie” to “insufferably sanctimonious." Cruise took to social media over the weekend to defend the film that he says he was proud and honored to help create. We went to the theaters expecting the worst, and were shocked…. Over the weekend, President Trump gave out Republican Senator Tom Cotton’s personal cell phone number, asking Arkansans to pressure Cotton to support “The Sunshine Protection Act.”  Trump wants Cotton, who he says is holding up the bill because of his “ego” to support the measure passed by the House that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent. Time is running out for the President, who wants to stop the clocks from falling back on November 1, as recent polls show Americans split on how they want the hands of time to land.

As Christa Pike remains hospitalized, unconscious, on a ventilator in critical condition after a failed execution attempt, the man in charge of Tennessee prisons has announced his resignation.  Governor Bill Lee did not directly reference the situation with Pike, or with this spring’s botched execution of Tony Carruthers, but said Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada stepping aside is "in the best interest of Tennesseans as the independent review moves forward."  Strada was most recently the Deputy Director of the Arizona Department of Corrections where he last oversaw three troubled lethal injections that all involved personnel not being able to find the inmates’ veins.

29-year-old Nathalie Belizaire was taken off a Carnival Cruise ship in handcuffs after police say she went on a 4 day cruise while leaving her 4 kids home, unsupervised. Belizaire has been charged with four counts of felony child abuse after the father of her infant called 9-1-1 after hearing kids’ voices and the tv on at her residence. When police burst through the front door, they found the four kids, including a 2 1/2 month old and a 2-year-old, hiding in the bathroom. Belizaire was in court this week pleading not guilty, and asking for visitation with her kids, which elicited a tongue lashing from the judge.

The attorneys for 50-year-old Christa Pike filed an emergency order to preserve all evidence from her botched execution attempt on Wednesday night. Pike’s attorneys detail her conditions, saying she is intubated, unconscious and on a ventilator with her arms swollen, blistered and burned. The filing alleges the medical team improperly placed the IV and both lethal doses of pentobarbital went into her body, not her veins, calling their actions “reckless” and “incompetent.”
