Irene Khan is an internationally recognised figure with a long history of defending the freedom of expression and opinion, gender equality and social justice. She was Amnesty International’s General Secretary for eight years. Just over two years ago, she was appointed UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Opinion. What has she been doing with regards to the violation of freedom of expression in Iran in the past two years and specifically what actions has she taken in response to the blatant and brutal violation of protesters ‘right to freedom of expressing in recent weeks?
