Is THIS Love Bombing (or are they just genuinely interested in you) 5 Tips to Tell

Listen Later

How do you know if its "love bombing" or not?

Really this question comes down to an issue of boundaries and of perception.

***timestamps below***

It seems to be asking "Can I trust others?" but the real question is "Can I trust myself to make good judgement calls".

Love bombing is a term from cult psychology. It's the practise of having the cult members bomb the new recruit with love, so they feel like the cult is a kind of heaven of earth. Once they have been bonded to the cult, its members and its leader the "love bombing" stops abruptly leaving the newcomer wondering what they did wrong and trying to figure out how to fix the relationship.

Similarly, on a micro level between two people (a narcissist is a cult of one, they are both leader and god head) some people use the term "love bombing" to describe the early phases of the narcissistic relationship dance.

Personally I find the term a bit excessive and jargonistic, so I don't use it much. But this podcast explains what this "idealisation" phase looks like and how to differentiate
