Modern family is broken.

Very few men truly get excited about fatherhood and family in the same way they do about business or even sports.

Why?

Frankly, it's because even as Christians, we've bought the secular lie that the family is a "nest".

It exists to self-destruct in 18 years.

That doesn't motivate a dad, no matter how much he loves each individual in his family.

So is family broken? Did God design something poorly?

Or is our new, modern experiment with family the problem?

Well, God's a perfect designer, so it's not the first one.

There's a lie that's been sapping the church of purpose over the past hundred or so years.

That lie is rooted in individualism, and honestly, a strange view of materialism.

We've exchanged covenantal theology with individual theology, and God's hand over all creation for dualism.

As such, we've lost the sacredness of work, which causes so much stress, confusion, and chaos in people's lives, and we've neglected a multi-generational, biblical view of family for a short-term, cultural view.

My guest today, David Bahnsen, runs a $10 Billion wealth management firm, and writes widely about the issues we discuss today. He's seen a lot when it comes to multi-generational legacies, and has thought a lot about the theology of work, even writing a book on the subject.

The 2 main positions on violence in Christianity are Just War Theory and Pacifism.

I don't like either of them.

In fact, I think there's a third way that really gets to the core of who we are as Christians in a way that I believe is most biblically accurate and true to our identity as followers of Christ.

I'm calling it Missionalism, and it has MUCH more to do with fulfilling Jesus' instructions to us as believers to disciple the nations than it does with justifying violence or retreating from society, as the 2 main positions would have us do.
