In 1992, Joe teamed with Scott Strausbaugh to win America's first-ever Olympic Gold Medal in Whitewater Canoe Slalom. Twelve years after the Barcelona games, Joe returned to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as an athlete, finishing a career which included paddling rivers in more than twenty countries and thousands of competitive experiences. He is the former CEO for the USA Canoe/Kayak, which is a national governing body for Olympic level paddle sports. Joe also worked for NBC as commentator for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
