  • JFD562: The Beastmaster, Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time, Beastmaster III: The Eye of Braxus
Did you have cable in the 80's or 90's? If so, chances are, you've probably seen Beastmaster. Or maybe you caught the sequel on VHS? Or the third one which was made-for-TV, perhaps? Well, this week we discuss all things Beastmaster as we are joined by friend of the show, writer/director Jackson Stewart. Up first, fresh off horror classic Phantasm, director Don Coscarelli tackles the sword and sorcery genre with Beastmaster from 1982. Starring Marc Singer as the titular Beastmaster, who falls in love with slave girl Tanya Roberts while trying to defeat an evil wizard played by Rip Torn!  Then, Coscarelli's gone but Singer is back for Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time. This time the Beastmaster magically gets warped to modern day Los Angeles. The fish-out-of-water story is well-worn, but is it any fun? Find out.  Finally, we close thing out with Beastmaster III: The Eye of Braxus. This final Beastmaster movie was made for TV and aired on May 24, 1996 on NBC.  All this plus Beastmaster memories, Thundarr The Barbarian, the boob scale, the "oh" drop, the hottest blu-rays of the week and so much more. Well, hello, Junk Food Dinner listeners. We've got three short films for grown ups that don't pee their pants this week. All this plus nerd news, DVD, possible theme shows, Parker explains Zack Snyder's Justice League, what Sam Peckinpah movies does Sean like, exactly? And Kevin doesn't care for a new documentary. All this and so much more! Direct Donloyd.

  • JFD559: The Black Hole, Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam, Tiptoes
Once again, we relinquish control of our picks to the distinguished tastes of our Dom DeLuise Patreon donors. This week they give a real mixed bag of notorious films. Up first, Disney assembles an all-star cast (Anthony Perkins, Robert Forster, Yvette Mimieux, Ernest Borgnine) and a hefty budget to try and get in on the Star Wars craze of the late 70's with The Black Hole from 1979 but ended up with an under-performing dud but which still has cult fans to this day. Next, did you know Jim Varney's first movie wasn't an Ernest movie? Well, it kind of was. It has Ernest in it, but only briefly. It's mostly about this other character, Dr. Otto (also played by Varney) who wants to wreak havoc on the world by destroying our financial institutions, starting with Cincinnati! It's called Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam from 1985 and it plays kind of like an Ernest movie, but weirder. Much weirder. And finally, we take a look at the infamous Tiptoes from 2003 in which Gary Oldman plays Matthew McConaughey's twin brother. Who is also a dwarf. The movie is often cited online as one of the worst/weirdest movies ever but is it really that weird?! We'll find out. All this plus Kevin's trip to Boston, grandpa movie talk, Wal-Mart Exclusives, Nick Nolte chat, the hottest blu-rays of the week and so much more. • JFD558: Monty Python's Life of Brian, Bad News Tour, Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy
Y'all been practicing yer funnies out there? Ya wanna laff along with us as we watch some sketch comedy movies? We hope y'all been practicing yer funnies out there, because this week, we're joined by none other than the internet's funniest man, Shelby Lermo! Check out his awesome new stuff he's been working on here. Up first! In the begining, god created man. But sometime shortly after, Monty Python created Brian. You know, that tan-colored movie your grandpa used to chuckle at while you tried to figure out what the hell people were saying? Well, listen to your favorite internet grandpas discuss this seminal British sketch film. Will Parker quit the show in disgust over his hatred for Monty Python? It's just one of the many mysteries of Monty Python's Life of Brian, from 1979! Here's the link on YouTube! Next up! Y'all remember the 80's? Unless you headbanged your way into a coma, you probably remember those Spinal Tap lads who skewered hard rock & roll music with their own biting form of Americanized satirization. But did you know the Brits got there first? It's true, and we'll talk all about it as we review Bad News Tour, from 1983! and the sequel, More Bad News, from 1988! Starring the cast of The Young Ones! And here's the link on YouTube! Finally! Of course, it's 1996's Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy. Did you think we would do a sketch comedy theme show and not review Brain Candy? No - it's Brain Candy, alright. Watch along with us on YouTube! All this plus uncle jokes, technical muppetry, Sean spouting off cliches, Kevin's on fire, a lil' Gonzo update, old riffs on new ideas, wonderful transition-work by one Parker Bowman on-air, playin' ping pong with Dee Snider, sick tour vans, nerd news plus blu-ray picks and even more! • JFD556: Mars Attacks (Full Length Audio Commentary)
We did it, Junkies. Another 100 films reviewed! And as we like to do every 100 movies, we take a little different direction and do a full-length audio commentary for a movie voted on by you, the listeners! And this time around, that movie is Mars Attacks from 1996! Directed by Tim Burton and featuring a star-studded cast (including: Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Annette Bening, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michael J. Fox, Pierce Brosnan, Danny DeVito, Natalie Portman, Jim Brown, Pam Grier, Jack Black, Joe Don Baker and many more!) this campy sci-fi spoof based on the infamous Topps trading cards from the 60's, this flick should be a lot of fun to watch together!  No Nerd News or Blu-rays this week, but we do bust out the Randomizer 5000 to pick our flicks for next week. Other than that, it's pretty much all commentary! • JFD555: A Visit to the Underground Cities of Mars, Captain Eo, Genghis Khan Conquers The Moon
We've all heard of short science fiction stories, but short science fiction films? It's true! They exist, and we're reviewing three of them this week for your listening pleasure. #DonloydNow! Up first! We pivot from science fiction to science fact as we explore the interstellar teachings of the Unarian Brotherhood, starting with A Visit to the Underground Cities of Mars, from 1977! This documentary, produced by Uriel and her fellow cosmos-traveling cohorts from El Cajon, shows in great detail the various kinds of Disneyland monorails and crystal miniature dioramas you'll find on the red planet. See it and believe it. Here's the link on YouTube! Next up! Y'all remember Captain EO, from 1986? The Disneyland ride that Michael Jackson made with those space muppets and a mountain of money? It's back, in podcast form. And here's the link on YouTube! Finally! Of course, it's 2015's Genghis Khan Conquers The Moon, which is exactly what it says it is and nothing more. But is that enough? When it's got James Hong and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, that's probably enough. Watch along with us on YouTube! All this plus a gonzo on my lap, a Phantom retread, Sean's experimental video loopings, the Hongman in a vinegar vineyard, the official certification of the JFD commentary vote, the sexuality of shrunken men, the passing of a pornographer, oh look at those titties, Kevin's got a Boris on his brain, hypnotic flashing lights, meat beat on evergreen terrace, our weekly news plus blu-ray picks and even more! • JFD553: The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Thing with Two Heads, Twisted Pair
This week we kick off what has become a favorite month here on JFD; Sci-Fi-ebruary! An entire month dedicated to science fiction films of all sizes, shapes and budgets!  Up first, legendary sci-fi director Jack Arnold (Creature from the Black Lagoon, Tarantula) teams up with legendary sci-fi writer Richard Matheson (I Am Legend, The Twilight Zone) for The Incredible Shrinking Man from 1957 about a man who begins to grow smaller and smaller after being exposed to a mysterious mist.  Then, classic schlockmeisters AIP bring us The Thing with Two Heads from 1972, about a dying surgeon (Ray Milland) who also happens to be a racist, who gets his head transplanted on a black death row inmate (Roosevelt "Rosie" Grier) in an attempt to extend his life. But when things don't go as planned, the two headed experiment will lead police on a chase across the California countryside.  And finally, ultra-low-budget filmmaker Neil Breen graces us with another one of his pet projects where he stars, writes, directs and does pretty much everything else in Twisted Pair from 2018 about a set of twin brothers (both played by Breen), one who is enlightened with AI and one who is addicted to pills and booze.  All this plus Parker disciplining his new dog, a spat of celebrity deaths, Amber alerts for Young Charles, the hottest blu-rays of the week and so much more.
