  • JFD363: Fritz the Cat, Mr. Sprinkles, Where the Dead Go to Die
We're all adults here, right? That doesn't mean we still can't watch cartoons. Ani-May rolls right along as we take a look at three adult animation oddities. Up first, it's the granddaddy of adult animation, Fritz the Cat from 1972. Directed by Ralph Bakshi and based off the comics of R. Crumb, the x-rated 'toon made a lot of money and kicked open the door for cartoons to be dirty. Next, back in 2007, Jack Black, Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab teamed up to create Acceptable TV, an animated sketch show that briefly ran on VH1. One of the more popular skits was Mr. Sprinkles about a Cat-in-the-Hat type creature who's losing his mind because kids are never bored anymore. From the creative team behind Rick & Morty. And finally, what do you get when you mix PS1 cut-scene style computer animation and Ghoul Summer-worthy subject matter? Where the Dead Go to Die from 2012. It's horrendous. All this plus witty banter between friends, listener voicemails, wrong theme songs Nerd News, Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, and a whole lot more! • JFD362: Evil Toons, The Lawnmower Man, Cool World
We're kicking off a new (annual?) tradition at Junk Food Dinner - Ani-May, our month-long tribute to animation in cult films! But we're easing into it first with a "Live Action / Animation" theme show - three flicks that blur the lines between the two mediums! First up! Fred Olen Ray's poster/cover art for Evil Toons (from 1992) promises a whole lot of spooky/sexy cartoon action. But can it deliver, or will the budget be too impossibly low to accomodate any actual animation? And will we still be charmed by it? Next! In what some are calling a potential "Freado Pick", we discuss the world's only Officially Desiginated non-adaptation of a Stephen King novel: The Lawnmower Man! "Groundbreaking" CGI animation sequences are used in the movie's many Virtual Reality sequences, where an "intellectually disabled" man learns latin and telekensis through the power of drugs. Starring the pilot from Lost! Also from 1992! Finally, a film that Paramount studios clearly had no idea what to do with, and maybe we don't either. Cool World finds Ralph Bakshi near the end of his career, and Brad Pitt at the start of his. It finds a home for cartoon characters and flesh and blood alike. But does it find out a way to balance cartoonish piano-dropping gags with dark, sexual satire? Only JFD can find out. This one's ALSO from 1992?! All this plus witty banter between friends, realistic hair and fabrics, pissed off Australians, a Carpenter's joke, the best & worst voicemail callers, steaming open root cellars, repeated disc picking, realistic film-watching standards, them weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, dry sneezes, wet belches, mega-decrepit erections, brominated vegetable gleeks and a whole lot more! • JFD360: Hero at Large, Problem Child, Stay Tuned
Come and knock on our door, junkies, as we celebrate the life and career of one of the most likable dudes ever, John Ritter as we explore some of his goofy flicks. Up first, Ritter plays a struggling actor in New York City who moonlights cosplaying as a superhero to help promote a new movie based on the character, but when he stops a robbery of a bodega in costume, the city gets Captain Avenger fever and Ritter has to decide if he wants to continue the superhero act in Hero at Large from 1980. Then, John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck play a childless couple who can't have kids but when they decide to adopt they get more than they bargained for when their adopted child turns out to be sadistic bastard in 1990's Problem Child. And finally, John Ritter plays a TV-obsessed husband and father who gets himself and his wife sucked into a hellish TV world filled with unholy parodies of pop culture when he purchases a TV off a minion of Satan himself (Jeffrey Jones) in Stay Tuned from 1992. All this plus witty banter between friends, listener voicemails, insight into Parker's fuck style, Nerd News, new MST3k chat,  Fast & Furious vs Star Wars, Blu-ray Picks, Monchichis, continued lack of overt police involvement, and a whole lot more! • JFD359: Mudhoney, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Supervixens
It's Russ Meyer week, and naturally we're busting out of our tops along with the lovely ladies of the rural Fellini! So button up your blouse and get ready to hit the road, we've got some flicks to discuss. First up! An early Russ Meyer effort pairs him with cinematographer Walter Schenk, who'd go on to lens Faster Pussycat. But who cares about Dutch angles when we've got American titties on display? It's a back country bra burning barn stormer! Of course we're talking 1965's Mudhoney! Next! In what can likely be called Roger Ebert's cinematic low-point, and likely John Lazar's most titillating performance, we meet up with Russ Meyer in his sole big-budget studio production - a strange pseduosequel/parody of a well-known but not particularly well-loved teen drug drama. It's OUR happening and it freaks US out, man! We go Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (from 1970), and some of us may never come back! Finally, Charles Napier shows up and things really go to shit. A later period Russ Meyer flick finds him fixated on Looney Tunes style cartoon gaffes, and of course, a wholesome dose of big-ass boobs. It's a film experience none of us could ever forget, nor would we want to. It's the incomparable Supervixens from 1975. All this plus witty banter between friends, the rudest titties of any JFD of all time, more Patreon shilling, Ricky's SXSW report, a double dose of news sadness, cartoons that harshed our mellow, them weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, dry sneezes, wet belches, mega-decrepit erections, partially hydrogenated gleeks and a whole lot more! • JFD358: Hugo the Hippo, American Drive-In, True Romance
We're back with three movies and some big news about the show, junkies! First, an evil Sultan imports hippos to wage a war against nazi sharks in the trippy 1975 kids' cartoon, "Hugo the Hippo." Next, a group of misfits go to see a zombie movie at a drive in. Hijinx ensue. And so does rape for some reason. In 1985's "American Drive In." Finally, two young lovers leave Detroit with a bag full of cocaine and turn up in Hollywood looking to make enough to run away together in the Quentin Tarantino-penned "True Romance." All this, plus big news, begging for money, DVDs, Nerd News, Ridley Scott sucks, Our parents come home early, Mr. Mabowow, junk mails and so much more! • JFD357: 7th Anniversary Spectacular!
JFD returns after a long week of partying with a king-sized episode to celebrate our 7-year anniversary! Up first, the gents regale you with tales of their meet up in Cincinnati where they saw bad movies on the big screen, attended the HorrorHound Convention, saw one of the last performances of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and most importantly ate lots of coneys and 3-ways. We also break out The Randomizer 5000 to randomize some contest winners and assign some decades for our upcoming JFDecades theme shows. And as is tradition on JFD every anniversary, we take a look back at all the movies we've watched for the podcast over the last year and recount our Top 5 Favorite and Bottom 5 Least Favorite flicks that we were forced to watch. All this plus witty banter between friends, listener voicemails, Nerd News, Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, and a whole lot more! • JFD356: Even Dwarfs Started Small, Burden of Dreams, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
The THRILLING conclusion to our month-long tribute to ego-stroking concludes with our final Me-Arch episode: Sean Byron Presents: A Junk Food Dinner Tribute to the Film Legacy of Werner Herzog!Join along with us as we explore three flicks from the pleasantly grim madman of Bavarian cinema. First up! An early effort from Werner Herzog has him chronicling a particularly chaotic, if plotless, day in the life of a fictional band of dwarves out in the Canary Islands. The film of course is 1970's Even Dwarfs Started Small! and we're here to report that it does not skimp on the little people! Next! Making any movie is hard work, but Herzog finds ways to make them maddeningly difficult. Never before was this more obvious than in Les Blank's 1982 documentary Burden of Dreams, which follows Werner as he attempts to pull off the impossible while making Fitzcarraldo. And then the soccer ball goes flat! Finally, we end the show as we end all truly great shows: smoking crack rocks with Nicolas Cage in a gritty post-Katrina New Orleans. Or at least, that's what it felt like after watching this movie. It's 2009's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, and it just MIGHT change all your thoughts on Nic Cage. All this plus witty banter between friends, chats about Julia Ducornau's RAW, The Plastic Dome of Norma Jean, the Sweetest Man in Washington DC, King Kong News, Godzilla News, Other Giant Monster News, sick animation burns, Parker's fear of emotional intimacy, continued apologies to Robert from Podcast Town, them weekly news and Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, sneezes, belches, mega-decrepit erections, gleeks and a whole lot more! • JFD355: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity, Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog
Me-Arch continues as we talk about Parker's dude: Joss Whedon! First, we talk about two Whedon-directed episodes of the show that made him a household name, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Everyone loses their voices in "Hush" and then tragedy strikes in "The Body." Next, the short-lived Sci Fi show "Firefly" takes to the air once more in the film, "Serenity." Finally, Whedon and his friends made a short film during a writer's strike. Neil Patrick Harris stars as a vlogging evil scientist in "Dr. Horrible's Sing a Long Blog." All this, plus Nerd News, exercise chat, DVDs, Logan Chat, a friend of Xanders' here and so much more. • JFD354: A Bucket of Blood, The Wild Angels, Frankenstein Unbound
This week we kick off Me-arch; an entire month where each week one of your JFD hosts picks a director who they love and highlights three flicks from their career. This week, it's Kevin's week and he chose The King of the B's himself, Roger Corman! Up first, Dick Miller stars as a put-upon busboy at a beatnik coffee house who only wants to be accepted by the artists and poets who frequent it. Unfortunately, he has no real talent. However, when he accidentally kills a cat he gets the idea to cover it in clay and pass it off as art. When that gets him noticed, he sets his sights on bigger prey in 1959's A Bucket of Blood. Then, Peter Fonda leads a gang of misfit bikers who roam Southern California looking for a good time in 1966's The Wild Angels. But when one of their crew (Bruce Dern) gets shot up by the cops, the gang hatches a plan to bust him out of the hospital but fails to realize dudes with gunshot wounds probably need medical attention. And finally, John Hurt is a futuristic scientist who develops a new weapon for the US Government, but it also opens a time warp that sends him back to 1817's Switzerland where he runs into Victor Frankenstein (Raul Julia), his monster and Mary Shelley (Bridget Fonda) in 1990's Frankenstein Unbound. All this plus witty banter between friends, the death of the IMDB message boards, Sean's adventures at the opera, impressions of Get Out, a surprise appearance by Parker's dog, backlash for Sean's Gwar views, sad Nerd News, Blu-ray Picks, continued lack of overt police involvement, and a whole lot more!
