Today's Metaphor Monday is less reflective and more rooted in a repetitive practice. We'll identify a word that feels "sticky". So a word that gets your caught up in it, a word that you feel like you HAVE to engage with, and then we'll explore a practice of repetition with that word.

Today's episode is touching on my personal experience with defusion, along with my own growing edge in relationship to this ACT for processes.
Today we'll move through my story of different moments defusion was helpful and not helpful. As a reminder, defusion is the act of seeing your thoughts from a distance. It is gaining a perspective of your thought that allows for more freedom of choices and action in the present moment.

This is a metaphor created during my 1:1 session work with a client who felt stuck in this work mode, having difficulty shifting into actions with family and friends. This metaphor is not a visualization but a written practice. So grab yourself some paper and writing utensils and Let's Explore!

This is an extension on the concept of defusion. This episode will explore common thoughts, ways they might show up and sound, along with potential pitfalls of the thinking. In addition, I'll give a few suggestions on how to start looking at creating distance from your thinking and thought patterns.

We'll dive into a silly defusion practice today. This can be practiced at home, driving, in the shower, or anywhere else a rigid perspective thought of yourself shows up! This exercise was developed by Ken Davis in 2013. It comes from the Big Book of ACT Metaphors. Happy Defusing!

This is a short defusion exercise, to support in those moments of feeling like thoughts are slow, sluggish, or even aspects of brain fog. This is an exercise designed for clients in my 1:1 work. As always, this is an exercise and experience designed to provide openness, awareness, and engagement.
Reminder: Metaphor Monday tools are not to substitute mental health support, do not treat specific diagnosis, and are not designed to be therapeutic in your listening experience.
Today's episode focuses on the concept of distancing yourself from thinking aka defusion! I'll explore the meaning of defusion, present a metaphor to approach the concept, and some suggestions on how to reflect on your own thinking.

This is a metaphor that's commonly used to help get distance from your thinking. This means that you don't get wrapped up in the thoughts as thoughts, but can see them just as a thoughts and choose to engage more fully with your moment.

We'll be moving into the ACT core processes of Defusion. Today's Metaphor Monday episode is focused on creating distance from your thoughts by using the visualization of the thoughts as leaves. This is a simple and short practice that can be practiced seated or laying down.
