You’re probably familiar with the phrase, “We don’t know what we don’t know.” I know there are a lot of things I don’t know about when it comes to certain things in life, like nutrition. I just don’t know a lot about nutrition - and that’s okay, but I know the value of having good nutrition.
When I talk with a personal trainer or a nutritionist I’ve worked with in the past, they often answer my questions about what I want, like getting my six-pack back, and yes, I do have a six-pack again. What makes our interactions even more valuable is that even though they address what I want, they know what I need and how to guide me towards what I need, not just what I want.
What we want and what we need are often not the same things. The same is true for your audience. They may want you to fix their schedule or their nutrition, their relationship, their kids’ reactions to their parenting, but the reality is what they need is more inner work, a mindset shift, a realignment of priorities.
Your audience is needing you to address (and maybe even give them) what they want. Truly serving your audience is about knowing what they also need, especially if that’s different than what they want.
What’s one way you can address what your audience wants today? And, what’s one common question or situation where it’s obvious what your audience needs and what your audience wants are not the same thing?
Share those with me on social media @keynotecontent or email me at [email protected]. I’d love to see what your audience needs versus what your audience wants and how you’re working to serve your audience in both areas.
Have a great day and remember, your Message matters!
