  • KND878 วิธีช่วยคนอื่นตัดสินใจ ให้ตัวเราได้ในสิ่งที่ต้องการ | “You have three options…”

Exactly What to Say: The Magic Words for Influence and Impact

    Shownote:

People hate to feel manipulated and nearly always want to feel like they made the final decision.

The words, “As I see it, you have three options,” help the other person through the decision-making process and allow you to appear impartial in doing so.

The rhythm of three makes for easy listening for the other person, and by leaving your preferred choice until the end, you easily build the value of that option and load the choices so your preferred outcome stands out as a clear favorite.

    📌 EXAMPLE

Imagine you are looking for someone to join your business or organization and they are on the fence about it.

“So, you are currently in a job that you kind of hate. You’re not enjoying it so much, the hours are long, it’s keeping you away from your family and the money is nowhere near what you would like it to be.

We have shown you a business opportunity and you like it, yet you are not sure exactly what to do.

“As I see it, you have three options.

1️⃣  First, you could look for another job, work on your résumé, send out applications, go through interviews and work through that entire process to perhaps find another employer offering a similar package and more than likely expecting the same kind of work for the same return.

2️⃣  Second, you could do absolutely nothing, stay exactly where you are right now, accept that your current circumstances are as good as it gets and just suck it up.

3️⃣  Or third, you could give this a try, work it alongside what you’re doing right now and see how far you go.

“Of those three options, what’s going to be easier for you?”

“What’s going to be easier for you?” means that the laborious new-job option is off the table.

Since staying put was already off the table, the only option they have left is the easy one—the one you want them to pick; the one you left to the end.

So, start with, “You have three options,”  finish with, “What’s going to be easier for you?”

and watch people effortlessly pick the choice that previously they were finding so difficult to make.

📌 THE PLIGHT OF THE PEOPLE PLEASER

I’ve been determined to keep the peace. Whatever the cause, in psychology there’s a name for my affliction. It’s called agreeableness, and it’s one of the major personality traits around the world. Agreeable people tend to be nice. Friendly. Polite.

My first impulse is to avoid even the most trivial of conflicts.

When students fill out course evaluations, one of their most common complaints is that I’m “too supportive of stupid comments.”

Disagreeable people tend to be more critical, skeptical, and challenging.  They’re not just comfortable with conflict; it energizes them.

📌 If you’re highly disagreeable, you might be happier in an argument than in a friendly conversation.

That quality often comes with a bad rap: disagreeable people get stereotyped as curmudgeons who complain about every idea, or Dementors who suck the joy out of every meeting.

In 2000, Pixar was on fire. (Toy Story 1&2, A Bug’s Life) Yet the company’s founders weren’t content to rest on their laurels.

They recruited an outside director named Brad Bird to shake things up.  (The Incredibles 1&2, Ratatouille,

Brad had just released his debut film, which was well reviewed but flopped at the box office, so he was itching to do something big and bold.

When he pitched his vision, the technical leadership at Pixar said it was impossible: they would need a decade and $500 million to make it.

Brad (Bird) wasn’t ready to give up. He sought out the biggest misfits at Pixar for his project—people who were disagreeable, disgruntled, and dissatisfied. Some called them black sheep. Others called them pirates.

When Brad rounded them up, he warned them that no one believed they could pull off the project.

    Notice what Brad didn’t do.

He didn’t stock his team with agreeable people.

Rethinking depends on a different kind of network: a challenge network, a group of people we trust to point out our blind spots and help us overcome our weaknesses.

Their role is to activate rethinking cycles by pushing us to be humble about our expertise, doubt our knowledge, and be curious about new perspectives.

They give the critical feedback we might not want to hear, but need to hear.

I’ve watched too many leaders shield themselves from task conflict. As they gain power, they tune out boat-rockers and listen to bootlickers.

I’m looking for disagreeable people who are givers, not takers. Disagreeable givers often make the best critics: their intent is to elevate the work, not feed their own egos. They don’t criticize because they’re insecure; they challenge because they care. They dish out tough love.

    📌 DON’T AGREE TO DISAGREE

If you watch Brad argue with his colleagues—you can quickly see that the tension is intellectual, not emotional. The tone is vigorous and feisty rather than combative or aggressive.

It’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable.

“In fact, when I argue with someone, it’s not a display of disrespect—it’s a sign of respect. It means I value their views enough to contest them. If their opinions didn’t matter to me, I wouldn’t bother.” – (Adam Grant)

📌 Avoiding conflicts improves nothing and gets you nowhere

📌 “Disagreeable people also make agreeable people comfortable arguing, too.”

Let go of what let go of you

9 More Things You Have To Let Go Already

    1. Thinking you're not ready.

Nobody is ever 100 percent ready for the opportunities that come his or her way. The best opportunities stretch us beyond our limits.

    2. Rigid plans.

Your 5 year plan, your life plan, the plan for the next month. Life comes at you fast, so stay loose. I’ve been known to dig my heels in when plans are changing, and 2020 has tested me beyond belief. Leave rigid plans behind, go with the flow, but be responsible.

    3. Holding grudges.

They're a waste of time and a hindrance to your happiness. The sooner you forgive, the sooner you can move on.

    4. Having a sense of entitlement.

The sooner we understand we're all equal, the faster we can succeed together.

    5. Trying to do everything alone.

The better you understand that things are easier and more fun together, the faster you will realize you don't have to do everything alone.

    6. Excuses

It is time to let go of excuses.

You didn’t go to the gym because the weather was bad, equals an excuse.

Let’s be honest you didn’t go because you didn’t want to. You didn’t want to do the work to make yourself a healthier person.

You give excuses to make yourself feel better about the decisions you didn’t take, when you should have taken them.

Which in turn, gives you a false sense of safety.

It’s time to let those excuses go.

Let yourself feel the real reasons why you didn’t do what you should have.  This way you won’t feel comforted by an excuse.

Instead, you will feel motivated by the truth.

    7. Holding on to relationships that bring you down.

Negative people are everywhere, but most of the time we don't have to be in a relationship with them.

    8. Trying to live up to people's expectations.

Do whatever you can to set high standards for yourself, and then do everything you can to meet them. Other people's expectations are none of your concern.

    9. Placing People On An Unrealistic Pedestal

So many times we want our friends or our partners to do exactly what we would do for them.  Thing is that will never happen because guess what you and them are not the same!

Your friends or your spouse are not you, will never be you, and will not do exactly what you think they should do.

The point of having friends and/or a partner is that you accept them for who they are.

You know them and you know what their reactions will be.  You may not like their reactions or how they go about things but, you have to face the fact that you can’t change them.

You can’t overreact when your spouse or friend does something wrong or doesn’t do it the way you would have done it.

    They are human.

They are going to mess up!

It’s up to you to accept them and love them for who they are and what they are.

    1. Rigid (adj)
    2. Hold grudge
    3. Entitlement (n.)
    4. Unrealistic pedestal
