In Episode 60 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Bryony about the births of her 2 sons Ari and Archie. Bryony takes us through her first pregnancy experience where she suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, expecting to go to full term Bryony moved from Dunedin to the North Island for an internship but when on a break in Taupo ended up going into labour at 31+3, they were transferred to Wellington Hospital where they remained until Ari was born. Bryony discusses her birth experience and post natal care period.
Bryony and her partner lost a baby at 11 weeks following the birth of Ari, which had a serious impact on her partner and she takes us through how they dealt with that as a couple.
They then fell pregnant again with Archie, Bryony experienced severe Hyperemesis again with his pregnancy and was at risk of another premature birth - she ended up going into labour at 25 weeks and Archie was born. In Episode 59 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Renee Ball about the birth of her two children - Honor and Hunter.
Renee takes us through her journey to first pregnancy which was longer than they anticipated, at a young age. When they did fall pregnant Renee ended up giving birth to Honor at over 10lbs resulting in a 3C tear in which the doctor told her she would need a CSection if she was to have another baby.
Renee and her Husband knew they wanted to have another baby and because their first journey had been a long one they decided to start trying again within a year of having Honor however after years of not falling pregnant they went down the path of IVF. Renee fell pregnant naturally with Hunter before starting their IVF treatment and was monitored for another large baby. Renee ended up being induced as they were concerned for babies size if he went to full term and Renee takes us through her induction experience, the journey as a mum of two and how she is adapting.
Thanks so much for joining me on the podcast Renee! Renee owns The Lactation Station which she also talks through in her episode if you’d like to check them out head to the_lactation_station on Instagram.

In episode 58 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Jade Weston about her two births of Frankie and Boston. Jade had a cyst on her ovaries before falling pregnant which meant she didn't have regular periods, Jade found out she was pregnant with Frankie and had a great pregnancy experience under Midwifery care. Jade ended up going 16 days overdue and was induced, she gave birth to a very healthy Frankie who was 10.1lbs via episiotomy and forcep delivery.
Jade takes us through adjusting to life as a new young Mum, her experience with post natal anxiety at around 3 months and how she found her support system through social media.
Jade then discusses her second pregnancy in which she decided to go through the care of an Obstetrician, with a planned induction at 38 weeks Jade gave birth to Boston who needed to spend a short time in the NICU due to his fast decent through the birth canal. Jade then talks about her experience with 2 young children, becoming a single Mum and all the things she has done to feel supported through out that time.
Jade is lovely and has some great experiences to share so I'm grateful to her for joining me on the podcast this week. If you'd like to chat with Jade about anything in her episode she is happy for you to reach out @_jadeweston

In episode 57 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Katie Hawkey about the birth of her daughter Coco. Katie takes us through their journey getting pregnant, her extreme Hyperemesis Gravidarum which was paired with antenatal anxiety (and mainly linked to this). Katie was living in London and takes us through the healthcare model there, as well as antenatal mental health appointments to assist with anxiety. Katie returned to NZ at the end of her pregnancy and discusses this experience, as well as having Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy and needing to be induced as a result.
Katie was induced twice as the first time didn't work, she takes us through the induction process and her labour / birth where she needed an episiotomy and later on had surgery to remove scar tissue. Katie then discusses their difficult start to breastfeeding, persisting with it and now still feeding 1 year on.
Katie is a Midwife here in NZ and it's great to hear about this from her perspective as both a Midwife and a first time Mum.

This is a bonus episode of Kiwi Birth Tales and part of an ongoing series of interviews with professionals around Womens Health and Wellness with a focus on Pre and Post Natal periods.
In this interview I chat with Katie Richardson from Whole Health NZ. Katie is a Physiotherapist with a particular interest in Women's Health, Nutritionist, Pilates Instructor and Therapeutic Yoga teacher. I took questions from followers on Instagram as well as guidance from Katie on all things pre and post natal womens health when it comes to getting guidance and support from a physio.
As you'll learn in this episode, Women's Health Physios can help us with a variety of areas pre and postnatally and I would encourage you to find a private provider near you or alternatively contact your GP for a referral to a public health physio consult.

In Episode 56 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Nina about her 2 birth stories. Nina takes us through coming off the pill and being diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (Menopause), her symptoms and what this meant for her trying to fall pregnant. When Nina did fall pregnant she was diagnosed with Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) and was monitored regularly through out her pregnancy, ending up being induced at 38 weeks.
Nina takes us through her induction and birth, including an episiotomy to help Niamh make her way into the world, her recovery from birth and also her breastfeeding journey where she received donor milk from her sisters in the early days until her milk supply regulated.
Nina then takes us through falling pregnant again reasonably quickly, no concern for growth restriction but still monitored more regularly due to being at risk for this, and through to her fast vaginal birth. Nina describes the differences between her birth experiences, her quick physical recovering and life as a Mum of two under 2.
Nina also discusses her support of the NZ Charity Mothers Milk, a breastmilk donation charity http://www.mothersmilknz.org.nz/ and how she got involved.

Matilda kept active during her pregnancy and takes us through what she was doing during this time.
Matilda and Husband Art did a Calm Birth course and also practiced Hypnobirthing breathing techniques that Matilda credits her positive homebirth to. Matilda decided to have a Homebirth early on in her pregnancy and had a great support team around her to enable this. Matilda takes us through going into labour, giving birth at Home and the next few hours after birth.

In this weeks episode of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Olivia Hewetson who takes us through her two birth stories with sons Beau & Leo.
Olivia spends time taking us through her pregnancy and birth with Leo as everything was tracking as it should have been until a 41 week growth scan showing abnormalities in growth with her baby. They were told it was extremely likely Leo would have a form of Dwarfism and the rest was left unknown until Leo was born. Olivia was induced on the same day and after an 8 hour labour Leo was born, his form of Dwarfism was Achondroplasia.
Olivia takes us through processing this information at 41 weeks, how they got the information and help they needed once Leo was born and also gives great insight into their lives which were changed forever, but in the most positive way.
Olivia is an amazing mum, advocate for people with differences and is always willing to chat with anyone so I encourage you to check their lovely family out on Instagram @olivia_hewetson

In Episode 53 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Jane about her pregnancy and birth journey with son Beau. Jane takes us through their fertility difficulties, being treated for Endometriosis, unexplained infertility and 3 rounds of IVF. Jane lost over 20kgs in her journey to pregnancy as she didn't want this to impact their ability for IVF, the requirement at the time was to have a BMI of under 30. Jane takes us through their experience with failed rounds of IVF as well as finding out they had been successful in the last round.
Jane had a very long labour due to Beau being in posterior position, eventually leading to an episiotomy and forcep delivery - the epidural Jane had was so strong she was unable to walk for hours after her birth and this proved difficult as Beau was taken to the NICU for breathing difficulties. After a short stay in the NICU they were reunited and Jane was able to go home with her baby.
Jane takes us through her experience as a new Mum and also her breastfeeding journey, discussing exclusively pumping for 3 months due to Beau having silent reflux which lead to a feeding aversion.
Thanks again for joining me on the podcast and sharing your story Jane!
