  • 90. Is the Fall Shed a Real Thing...or Just An Excuse When Lash Artists Have Poor Retention?
For the last 7 or 8 years every September, you'll see posts teaching lash artists about the infamous "fall shed". It's pretty much accepted now that if you're having lash retention issues around the fall it's a normal thing and you just need to inform your clients. Now Tussanee has been doing lashes since 2005 and never noticed in all her years any unusual lash retention in the fall. Even when we had staff and were doing 600-800 women a month we never saw this phenomenon. Now that doesn't mean the fall shed isn't real...it just means we never noticed it. So Tussanee decided to put on her investigator hat and did some deep research looking at medical studies on lash loss and talked to a couple of well-respected doctors on the subject too. One of the doctors, Dr. Warren Stout did his own search oN the fall shed in two well-respected medical databases and shared his results with us. In this episode, Tussanee breaks down what she found and gets a little nerdy. This is the kind of stuff Tussanee loves to geek out over! Hopefully, you will too!If you have been following us for a while, you know we like to challenge the status quo with the goal to either affirm what is being taught by our industry or debunk it. In this episode, we'll give you some good ammo to really think through this issue. • 88. Tiffany of Level Up Lash Podcast Talks About Moving From Her Home to Brick and Mortar
Early this year Bella Lash released a study of our lash industry from 2019....and one of the big surprises to me was a large percentage of lash artists who work out of their home. I had no idea the number was so large. That said, we recently got to know Tiffany Watson of the Level Up Podcast, and she told me she moved this summer out of her home to her own business space during this crazy pandemic. Pretty bold move if you ask me. I was so intrigued by her story, I felt it would be inspirational to share it with you.I know many of you who are working from home hope to one day make the leap to your own space. I hope Tiffany's story gives you the push to go for it!Aside from having her own lash business, she also has a product line and an amazing podcast. She's a newcomer to the podcast community but you wouldn't know listening to her podcast. You need to add her podcast to your list as she's doing a great job of bringing new voices to the light and really giving lash artists great tips on how to grow their business. • 86. The Uber of Lashes is Here and Erin Branche Comes on Our Show To Talk About It
One of the exciting parts of our job is meeting new people who are doing interesting things, and today we are excited to have Erin Branche of Lash Bash come on our podcast to talk about her new venture. She has created an app that connects lash artists with clients who want to have services in their homes. She is starting this service in the fall and will be launching in her home town of Philidelphia first. BTW...if you are in the Philly area and are looking for work you should check out her service. It might be a great way to launch your lash career. One of the reasons we ask lash entrepreneurs to come on our show is to hopefully inspire you to think outside the box. Most last artists think that the next thing one can do after doing lashes for a while is start a product line or become a trainer...but there are a lot more opportunities out there that. I always tell people to try to find something you are passionate about and then see if there is any way for you to combine your lash expertise with it. For me, I've produced a lot of events over my lifetime so it made sense or me to produce our lash conference. In Erin's case, it was to create an app that helps lash artists. I hope after you listen to this episode, you'll start to think of what you offer to the lash world. • 84. Ted Gipson & Jason Backe Discuss Reopening Their Salon Despite State Shutdown Orders
Salons around the world have been mispresented, misunderstood and plain out ignored during this Covid-19 crises. The beauty industry has been hurt immensely with all the mandatory shutdowns, and as a result, sadly we know quite a few salons have decided to just call it quits. In California, salons were ordered to shut down again in early July and now are only allowed to provide services outdoors. We are blessed to have Jason Backe and Ted Gipson join us in the LashCast studios to talk about their reopening a couple of weeks ago where they decided to defy the governor's orders to stay closed. This was not an easy choice for them, but they felt as leaders in the beauty industry it was important to do this to hopefully draw attention to this gross injustice. If your salon is currently closed, we hope you'll be encouraged and inspired by what they are doing. As an added bonus, we discuss their new salon model that has turned the traditional salon on its head. They opened their salon "STARRING by Ted Gipson" last year and it has laid down a new blueprint on what a salon experience should look like. • 81. M'Lisa and Royal of Spa Strong Are Here to Help You with Client Boundaries
Do you struggle with having boundaries with your clients? Now I know some of you might say you have no issue, but over my 15 years of working with beauty pros, I'd say one of the biggest issues I see we struggle with are boundaries. We got into the beauty industry because we like to make people happy and because we don't learn anything about managing clients in beauty school, we tend to get walked all over when we start our career. Sadly some of us still struggle even after working in this industry for years. In fact, some of you might even be resentful of your clients or might be nearing burnout. Today we have beauty coaches M'Lisa and Royal Ellis of Spa Strong join us to talk about how you can have healthy boundaries in your business.M'Lisa published a book called "Boundaries in Esthetics", and we discuss how command presence will help you improve your interactions with your clients, how adding the value is a great way to empower you to raise your prices, and how you want to attract "quality clients" over "quantity clients". We had a great time learning from M'Lisa and Royal, and I know you will too. When you get done with this episode go to the link below and get a copy of M'Lisa's book. If you're like most businesses, you've seen things slow down at least a little if not a lot. It's a difficult time to build a business to say the least. We opened our salon back in 2006, and then the Great Recession hit us in 2008. Our timing was horrible. On top of a slowed-down economy, most people didn't even know what lash extensions were and there was no Instagram to help us to affordably market our business (yes we lived in the stone ages). While it wasn't easy, we found a way to grow our business in the midst of the recession. Even though the cards were stacked against us, we grew our little salon and even hired our first staff during the recession. We tried all sorts of ways to promote the salon...some worked well and others...not so well. In this webinar, we will break down and share all the marketing tricks and promotions that worked and got our salon to grow into being a 7-digit award-winning in Southern California. When you are done, you'll be equipped with many new strategies and ideas that you can implement in your business. BTW...most of them have nothing to do with Instagram.
