This episode is dedicated to the amazing production of Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway. Join #RachelLaLoca on the red carpet for opening night of the Broadway musical that touches the soul and pulls at both the heart AND guitar strings! She was joined by Latino theatre expert, Paola "Pie" Soto who covered interviews with band members such as Renestio Avich aka the Jimmy Hendrix of Cuba and trombonist, Eddie Venegas. Rachel got to chat with the celebs that came out to support this tribute to the pursuit of a dream during tumultuous political times. She linked up with icons and former guests of #LOL, like Producers of the show, John Leguizamo, Lin-Manuel Miranda, his father, Luis A. Miranda, Jr, and actress Daphne Rubin-Vega. Other stars captured during this amazing evening include Luna Lauren Velez and Rubén Blades.

On this episode of #LatinosOutLoud, #RachelLaLoca recaps her sketch comedy participation in the 20th Annual NY Comedy Festival. Sketch Cram, a show built in 24 hours, that went up at The #UprightCitizensBrigade Theatre and then the next day, the Morir Soñando show, live at The United Palace. She also recaps her presence on a panel for the #SecureTheBIgBag Summit at The Radio Hotel, also Uptown Manhattan.

Rachel also sits and chats with the President and CEO of The United Way of New York City, Grace Bonilla. In her role at UWNYC, Grace has championed the development of a Latine Studies Curriculum for New York City (NYC) schools. Latiné communities enrich the fabric of NYC, yet their narratives often remain sidelined. This gap leads to limited information making its way into K-12 curriculums, even though 40% of NYC’s students identify as Latiné or Hispanic. By advocating for this curriculum, Grace ensures students receive an authentic understanding, affirming NYC’s commitment to celebrating and educating its rich Latiné heritage.

On this episode of #LatinosOutLoud, Rachel chats virtually with Playwright Kristoffer Diaz, who is the noble pen behind the Grammy and Tony award-winning Broadway show, Hell's Kitchen. Diaz is the book writer for the Broadway hit which tells a story loosely based on Alicia Keys' life and incorporates some of her biggest hits. Rachel got the chance to see the show, and the two speak about key moments in the musical, the unity felt among the theatre audience and how both feel the same sense of fulfillment as college Professors, as Kristoffer teaches play writing at NYU and Rachel teaches podcasting at CUNY Brooklyn College.

The playwright, screenwriter, and educator gained national acclaim in 2010, when his play The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity was produced in Chicago and New York and then named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama. His work has been developed and performed at the Goodman Theatre, Dallas Theater Center, Geffen Playhouse, Second Stage, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and New York Shakespeare Festival’s Delacorte Theater. He adapted Rent for television and wrote for the Netflix series GLOW. His newest play, Reggie Hoops, is about a female executive in the NBA. It will receive its world premiere in August at Profile Theatre in Portland, Oregon.

Out by PRX Studios, the podcast is a project by the Lost Women of Science Initiative, which aims to tell the stories of female scientists who made groundbreaking achievements but remain largely unknown. The podcast is available in both English and Spanish.

The Lost Women of Science Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with two overarching and interrelated missions: to tell the story of female scientists who made groundbreaking achievements in their fields—yet remain largely unknown to the general public—and to inspire girls and young women to embark on careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

She chats with Founding Executive Artistic Director, Mino Lora who was last a guest on the show back in November of 2020! Hear her many updates, including how she's directing the new play written by another former guest of LOL, Marco Antonio Rodriguez called The Domino Effect. Mino also shares the status of the massive Centro Cultural Inmigrante, slated to open in 2026. This hub for the performing arts will amplify the voices of New York City’s diverse immigrant communities and cultivate work by local artists and arts organizations. This will mark the first dedicated theatre in Washington Heights & Inwood, and the largest Latine-operated theater in New York State. The People’s Theatre will serve 28,000+ audience members and 300+ artists annually.

Rachel also chats with actress, Angela Reynoso on her role in The Domino Effect and a taste of what her impactful character will leave with audiences.

The Domino Effect, written by Dominican American Marco Antonio Rodriguez and directed by Dominican American Mino Lora, offers a moving portrayal of what it means to seek belonging in more ways than one. Premiering this April at A.R.T./New York Theatres, the play explores the triumphs, sacrifices, and resilience of immigrant and queer communities. At a time when rhetoric around immigration is divisive, and LGBTQ+ rights are being erased, this play serves as a unifying force—showcasing how these communities shape the fabric of our city and country.

The two talk about the new bilingual play she wrote, directs and stars in, Ybor City--a project with real purpose. In the heart of Ybor City, a mysterious entity begins to influence the reader system used in the cigar factories, leading to the education of workers and rising tensions in the workplace. Following a shocking death in one of the factories, Nena, a grieving employee, emerges as the first female reader and reluctant leader of a revolutionary movement.

Under the artistic direction of Academy Award-winner Tim Robbins, The Actor's Gang presents new, unconventional and uncompromising plays and dynamic reinterpretations of the classics, to restore the ancient sense of the stage as a shared sacred space, to introduce theater to children and help them find their own creative voices, to bring the freedom of self-expression to the incarcerated.

On this episode of #LatinosOutLoud, #RachelLaLoca and actresses Vivian Lamolli & Vanessa Vasquez open their hearts and engage in a deep conversation about the film, Say a Little Prayer, friendships, motherhood, and being a happy as you can with yourself.

The film, which had its limited theatrical premiere over the holidays in more than 120 theaters across the U.S. and the Caribbean will be available on video-on-demand platforms, including Apple TV and Prime Video, this Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Directed by Patrick Perez Vidauri and written by Nancy De Los Santos, the film follows three best friends who recite an ancient prayer to St. Anthony, the patron saint of "all things lost," in their quest for love, unleashing chaos and testing their friendship. The film stars Vannessa Vásquez (Divorce Bait), Jackie Cruz (Orange is the New Black), Vivian Lamolli (Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies), and Grammy Award-winning recording artist Luis Fonsi in his film debut. The supporting cast includes Angélica María, Pepe Serna, and Chris Kattan.

Luis Fonsi makes his feature film debut in Say a Little Prayer, marking an exciting milestone for the Grammy Award-winning artist. Fonsi also lends his voice to the film's title track, "The Prayer In Your Eyes”. This English Language love ballad adds a poignant layer to the film, enhancing its characters’ emotional journeys.
